I recently made a purchase from a private seller and I think the diamond looks great! It is eye clean, to the extent no one I have showed saw any flaws with amateur eyes, but I wanted to get some feedback from some of you on a rough price for something like this. It is mounted in platinum and I will be re mounting and having a custom built ring for it. Here are the specs, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.

1.67 carat
Measurements 7.36mm-7.42mm x 4.58mm
Depth 62%
Table 66%
Girdle Medium-thick
Cutlet Pointed

polish Good
Symmetry good

Clarity I1
Color K

Florescent Very strong Blue

Platinum Ring Mounting weighs approx. 5.3 grams 10 round brilliant cut diamond melee are channel set into shoulders of the ring and weigh approx. total of .3 carats, their clarity grades average VS, color average G/H.

I am wondering what you might value a ring like this at. I am also wondering if the ring minus the round diamond is worth much, if so rough ballpark of how much. I barely have time away to get to the jeweler and thought even before I do I want to see what the Pricescope community would peg this as. I know if it not an ideal diamond, but I can honestly say it sparkles to me and looks big and beautiful, so I can not complain. I think I paid a reasonable amount, but let me know what you think its worth thanks a lot!!!!

I would use the pricescope search function to enter in the stats of the stone- and see what comparable stones are selling for. Since this is second hand you would expect to pay less. Since that stone seems to be facing up small- I might run the angles and numbers trough the HCA I see what cut grade it comes up with. My guess is the cut is in the very good-goo range.

That should give you a starting point for comparing pricing.

I can not seem to use the HCA tool because I do not know the Crown
Pavilion
Culet* %

Is there a way to do it without these or am I missing something from the information I have? Thanks for the help!

Where did those specs come from? A certificate? If so, from which lab?
If not, then it's going to be difficult to get an idea about prices for comparable stones since the specs might not be reliable, and that's our best basis for finding comps.

It is an EGL cert, so not the best but just wanted to get an idea of what people thought. Thanks for the help!!

If its EGL you will want to search 1-2 color and clarity grades lower in order to compare to GIA.. I'll do a search for you but I'm on my iPhone and can't link to it for you...

Ok, according to IDJ I found a comparable stone- 1.65 J SI3 very good cut, EGL certificate- listed at 4,000.

Since yours is K I1 EGL a true comparable would be a little less than 4,000- and yours is second hand as well so even less I would expect to pay...

Hope that helps some :)

No kidding! This is a POORLY CUT DIAMOND. I don't know why anyone said anything otherwise. I would NOT buy a RB with a 66 table. Terrible idea. Add the EGL K I1 stats and you've got a true lemon.

Return it.

Another note, if this is an EGL I1, then that's a huge problem. GIA I1s can be graded as EGL SI1s and SI2s. This this is an EGL I1, I am thinking also in terms of durability for something with that many inclusions and maybe even fractures.

Well I paid $3200 for the diamond and platinum ring, which is prob worth about $300, so around 3k total invested, I can return it, but honestly it looks clean to the naked eye, I took it to a jeweler and he had the same sentiment as you did when he saw the papers but after looking at it was actually impressed at how well it looked, he said its worth probably $3700 used, if it was new around $5000 with today's prices. So I am not to disappointed honestly. I may end up keeping it.

I don't think you necessarily overpaid for what you got considering the stats and the carat weight of the stone. You may have spent $ on a diamond that many others wouldn't buy, but if you are happy with the stone, I guess that is what matters most.

It's great luck that a diamond with a clarity grade of an EGL I1 looks clean, but the crown and depth % are going to affect how it performs. Those are what make the difference between a piece of ice in a ring mount and something that is eye-catching and sparkles. Are you sure it doesn't say 56% table?

ETA: Looking back through your old posts I see that you are familiar with BGD. He does recutting so you could end up with a really pretty stone for the price *if* the inclusions and other aspects of this stone allow for a recut. Might be worth starting a conversation with Lesley and Brian about this. You will probably lose some of the face-up look but it will sparkle much, much much more.
