Hello Everyone:

First, this site is awesome with so much information and helpful people. I found the following asscher diamond and would like to get your input and thoughts on the cut and price. I am surprising my girlfriend and her only needs are an asscher cut in a solitaire platinum setting (I like the lucida style setting).

Asscher cut - GIA
1.55ct
Color: D
Clarity: VS1
Polish: very good
Symmetry: very good
Fluorescence: none
Depth: 69.1%
Table: 66%
Measurements: 6.33x6.31x4.36

The B&M jewler wants to sell me this diamond and solitaire lucida style setting in platinum for $13,500 cash. My original budget was $10k, then it went up to $12k because I wanted something between 1.35-1.45 ct. I think the price is pretty close to what I have found on pricescope.

I am now really focus on the quality of the diamond. I know it''s hard to say without seeing it in person, but are the specs good quality and worth the extra money?? I am concern that the table at 66% and depth at 69.1% is too much. I read in a few articles and guides online that an asscher''s table should be 53%-57% for excellent cut, 58%-65% for very good and depth should be 59%-65% for excellent and 65%-67% for very good cuts. Since it''s so much money, I would want a diamond with high quality. I have not seen the diamond, he needs to get it shipped if I want it.

I am planning to surprise my GF in mid June. Any insight you can provide about the quality and overall value of the diamond would be much appreciated. THANKS! Should I buy and starting planning the surprise?

as you probably already know... Strm is our resident "asscher expert" -- he should chime in....

one thing I know for sure as an asscher owner -- is that the experts here will want to see pics of the stone to really comment.

Personally, I would go a little lower on the color... and get the best cut you can find.. those windmills can get tricky!

Good luck -- and congrats on your pending engagement..

table is over my cut off of 65... but not a lot...
depth is on the deep side but its under 70 so its ok.
Any other comments require pictures and crown height.

Strmrdr,

Do you have any other guidelines? What is the crown height? What should it be for this diamond to be worth it? I will try to get a picture.

thanks!

crown height is the distance the table is above the girdle.
With that depth it should be 15%+ at the min.
