Hi Everyone,

Here are the specs I am looking for:

1.50ct to 2.00 ct Princess cut Diamond in a 4 prong tiffany style setting.

VS1 to VS2 (can be clarity enhanced but previous clarity can not be worse then SI2)

E-H (I know with a clarity enhanced it can not be colorless)

Very Good Cut (Ideal is impossible with a Princes True? Scale 1-10 7 or 8)

Here is the tough part - Price Range is $6000

Please let me know if that is realist or should I be working a night job somewhere? LOL

Please, please, PLEASE do not buy a clarity enhanced stone! Do a search on here and you''ll see what I mean. You''re better off sticking with an SI1-SI2 that''s eye-clean as well as leaning toward I-J color to stay within your budget. Keep in mind that a well-cut princess of this color range will be nice and white...perhaps not as "icy" as an F-G or so, but still not yellow. Also, it''s not true that princess cuts can''t be "ideal" - AGS is the only lab that grades cut quality on princesses, but they have an "ideal" cut grading. They just have far more variation in cut styles than rounds do.

Here are a couple to consider...they don''t look like top-notch cuts, but better than the average princess out there:

1.74 J/SI1 - a tad over budget, and hard to say if there''s some asymmetrical light leakage here or if the stone is just tilted, but otherwise looks OK
1.57 J/SI1 - a bit off-square though; could be perceptible to a discerning eye

James Allen will probably be the cheapest, but they unfortunately don''t provide ASET images, which are the best tool for buying a princess sight unseen. The next best thing is an Idealscope image, which JA can provide. Ask them for that, and also ask if the stones are eye-clean.

Alternatively, if you can handle K color, this diamond would be a superb choice:
1.51 K/VS2

For this stone, I would ask Jon to make a video comparing it to a near colorless range like H-I. That will give you the best idea of how perceptible the color is. However, the cut is top-notch, and the price is right.

A simple 4-prong WG Tiffany setting will run around $300.

Your budget isn''t far off if you stick to the lower end of your carat weight and perhaps drop your minimum color and clarity just a bit.

I would never ever consider buying a clarity enhanced diamond myself. I think that is a mistake. If you need to sacrifice something, go with a stone that is actually SI1-SI2 clarity and I, J, or K color, or drop size a bit.

Ditto Jstar and Phoenix.

Thanks for the heads-up!

I actually had a 1.53 Clarity enhanced princess stone in a tiffany''s that a broker was selling for 5600 Canadian.. I took it to a mutual appraiser (Birks) thinking it will match the american appraisal of $9000, but instead was appraised at $6000 Canadian. I was not impressed and did not buy the diamond though I spend $70 out of my pocket...

This person had a 1.37 E color she was selling me for $6800 that was not clarity enhanced..

I am awaiting a 1.41 she previously promised me from EGL labs for about 5312 (not clarity enhanceD) but H color and VS2..

let me know if you see any further deals!

I'm glad you didn't keep the clarity enhanced stone!

The prices you're quoting sound a little too good to be true for me, but it can't hurt to look. Keep in mind that EGL tends to be soft on color and clarity, so your 1.41 H/VS2 may be something like a GIA J/SI2 (color and clarity may be 1-2 grades off!). Make sure they have a return policy, and take it to an independent appraiser like you did with the first one.

We can help evaluate the cut quality if the vendor can provide detailed close-up photos and preferably an ASET or IS, which unfortunately many vendors don't.

Also, found you another one that looks really nice but is a little smaller than what you were looking for:
1.28 H/VS1 - $5960 with PS discount

If this diamond performs the way I expect it to based on the photo, it would probably be my first choice of the ones I've suggested. Second would be the GOG stone, only because I'm iffy about the K color, but the cut is clearly the best of the bunch.

Thanks! This ring looks great! I am just waiting for our dollar to go back up to par then I will purchase.

Damn Toronto dealers don''t have the deals you guys do. But the princess in a simple tiffany setting looks nice!

You mean the 1.28? If you can afford it now, I would suggest calling James Allen on Monday to reserve it just so someone doesn''t snatch it out from under you! I''m not sure how long they''ll let you hold it though...if you need to wait for the exchange rate to get better, it may be gone. We could of course help you find another if that happens. And please do ask for an Idealscope and show it to us before you buy; it may after all not turn out to be the good performer that I think it will from the photos!

Thank Jstar,

You have provided me with some great insight to something quite esoteric.

I will most certainly ask for an ideal scope and share it prior to purchasing.

The wait for the dollar to increase may also give me some time to save up a few 1000''s more.

I know with 8000 it won''t be hard finding a 1.5 carrot.

Anyone heard of Adamas International? They seem to have a great selection of diamonds and Carry in Canada.

No problem! Just let us know when you''re ready to buy, and I''m sure we can help you find some great rocks.

Never heard of Adamas, but there are plenty of Canadian PSers, so hopefully one of them will chime in.
