Sometimes when I check for pricing here on PS, I see ridiculously low prices for 1.50 plus carats, J-K color, SI-SI2 specs. What are those all about and should I jump at one the next time I see one? And when I mean low cost, I mean less than 6K. That''s low, right?

Wow, that is low, IMO. I would say that as long as they are of excellent cut, you should be ok, as long as you don''t mind the color. The SI clarity should be find and any of the PS vendors will be honest about it being eye clean to your standards. Just be careful and check out the IS and ASET images if you can to make sure its an excellent/ideal cut.

Always keep in mind that you get what you pay for. If a price is significantly lower than you expect, then the stone will be lacking in color, clarity, or cut. Indeed, why would a seller be willing lose money on a diamond? That doesn''t make sense. I find it hilarious when I surf ebay (just for fun) and see a seller advertising a diamond ring with a "retail value of $24,000" for a "buy it now" price of $8,000. I guarantee that if you fork over the moolah, you will get a ring not even worth $8,000 -- because that seller intends to rake in a tidy profit!

RXtechRN2b, I agree with you about ebay, but I think this may be a different ballgame as Peepa said she is checking on PS for pricing - I will assume she means the "pricescope a diamond" tool, which only returns answers from PS recommended vendors.
Now, admittedly some are better than others, but I don''t think the usual scam mentology may be applicable..They would be quickly banished from any mention on PS if that kind of behaviour went down.

Anyway, Peepa to your question, for 1.5+ cts that does seem cheap, even taking the colour and clarity into consideration. But if you''re looking at someone like GOG, WF, winfields etc, chances are you won''t be buying a "dog" cut stone.
As you know, not all SI''s are equal, so best to just evaluate each one individually. Then as Dockman said, as long as you''re happy with the colour, than it may well be a bargain!

I have just bought a 1.25 K si1 from GOG for less than 6k, and I felt I got a very reasonable price.

You are right -- PS vendors are safe to buy from and I would have no fear of.a scam. They are definitely playing in a different ballbark than Ebay!! I was just pointing out that you get what you pay for and any seller is going to be making a profit (although not nearly as much as those Ebay sellers, for sure).

I would say that if you find a diamond with acceptable stats to you, and you also like the price, just make sure you ask questions such as "why is this price so low compared this other diamond of similar stats?" You can be confident that the PS vendors will be honest and say that it''s not quite as good of a cut, or it shows a bit of color, or it''s not totally eye clean (if those are the reasons for the low price). Then you can decide if the diamond is still acceptable to you.

Ditto. Post specs or reserve it and then post specs so we can help you if you like

It is also important to remember that just because a diamond pops up on the PS your diamond search function it is not necessarily a RECOMMENDED stone. Just one that a vendor happens to have access to/in stock...

Well-cut lovely stones can be very inexpensive even from great vendors when they have the low color/clarity combo. I''ve seen such stones in my searchers. If you are considering some of these stones, why not post them and get feedback (reserve first to avoid snatchers if you are seriously considering them).
