Hello,

I am new to this forum, this is my first post. I am planning to celebrate the birth of our son with some jewelery. I know I want a diamond solitaire ring and have been looking around. I found this on Union Diamond

Does this seem like a good deal? I want a bigger stone as i have big hands, so I am looking for 1+ carat.

Any input is appreciated. My budget is upto $5000 and this seemed like good bang for your buck.

Thanks

Hello,

Welcome to Pricescope! I've just looked at the grading report provided for the diamond you're looking at but there's not enough in it to assess the cut (angles/%)...from the price it's seems to good a deal to be true unfortunately. A GIA certified diamond the same size and with a VG/Ex cut would cost more than twice what you've been proposed :loopy:

Also, EGL are known for their inconstancy on grading so it doesn't look to good for your stone I'm afraid :|

You'd be better sticking to GIA certified stones, there are plenty of reputable dealers that may be able to help you find a very pretty stone...good luck.

If you look for an emerald cut I can not help you much but tell you that fancy shapes cannot be assessed from the figures like round brilliant. In other words it's difficult to say if an emerald cut will be beautiful just by looking at the report...you really need to see the diamond and compare it with others.

Also, I think it may be hard to say if it will face up bigger or smaller than a round because it may depend on the depth and length/width ratio of the stone...maybe some more knowledgeable PSer can tell you more.

Also, what does your wife like? Are you sure she's open to a fancy cut?

You should indeed by careful about the lab that does the grading. Confine your search to GIA and AGS stones.
