These forums offer a wealth of awesome advice!

I think I am narrowing down my selections and getting ready to make a purchase. I have my eyes on a diamond which seems to be a good deal although it is *not* quite as large as I would like. It looks like for a few hundred dollars more I could purchase a lower quality diamond from Blue Nile that is 1.51 ct. http://www.bluenile.com/build-your-own-diamond-ring?first_step=diamond&forceStep=DIAMONDS_STEP&track=NavEngStartWithDia#diamonds_forceStep=DIAMONDS_STEP|builder=BYOR|pid=LD03407390

Any feedback between the quality and size?

The diamond will go into a 3 stone setting very similar to http://www.gabrielny.com/engaged/style/ER3907W44JJ The side stones will total half the weight of the center.

Culet None

Symmetry Very Good

GIA Cert: https://www.dropbox.com/s/t2t6zfp7lqx4ht4/GIA2AA1258.jpg

Thanks for any feedback!

What is your budget? I'd say no to both stones. The first one is junk and the second one would be fine if the table wasn't so huge. Most of us prefer tables 54-57...some will go up to 60 if the depth is also 60....

The cut on the 1.2 isn't the best the pavilion angle is to high and the table is too large. What's your total budget? What color are you comfortable dropping to? J is still considered colorless, but I is when people notice its not as white.

I personally have a k and love it.

What are you comfortable with?

The link to your setting didn't work for me, but you said three stone. There are quite a few "ifs" involved here but I'd they work out it could be great. IF CTW is really important and you're willing to drop down quite a bit in color AND if you're willing to go used AND if you can go non round there is this

Keep in mind the antique cuts are made to pair well with lower colors, and cushions are very in right now.

And its been for sale for a very long time so they might entertain offers.

Its a three stone with lots of CTW and a LOT of presents, so, could be way off base but your budget is going to be hard to get a well cut center at 1.5 cts :wavey:

So just passing it along.

Wow! Quick replies and great advice. I feel like it would have been a mistake purchasing either of these. The link to the setting in my original post has been fixed and here it is again.

My budget for the stone is around $7000-$7500. If I can get a much higher quality diamond, I would stick with something in the 1.2 - 1.3 range.

What's your budget for the entire ring? Does it have to be WG or would you consider rose gold or yellow gold?

The ring will definitely be WG. I would like to spend around $8500 total for the stone and setting but might spend a little more if I found something that really hit the spot.

I have attached the ideal scope of the 1.59 carat which was recommended. Here is also the gemoligists thoughts:
It has an excellent amount of brilliance (white light return), with a great amount of fire (dispersion of color) and sparkle that is all well balanced and symmetrical. It is a true "K" in color and faces up with a very slight warmth. The feather in the diamond is large in nature and while it is not a durability concern, the gemologist does feel that a keen eye may be able to pick up on it under certain angles.

I have also checkout some AVRs and really like the larger facets. Would the following stones appear to be a much better quality?

I think I am totally deadlocked at this point.

The modern and the AVR are just two totally different looks. I have seen several AVR's in person and my personal preference is for the cushions (AVC) most of the time. Choosing between them based on online looking would be really hard for me and I feel like the AVR's like old cuts, have to be seen in person until you find one that "speaks" to you. (Well, I'm even that way with modern stones once I've got the specs nailed down where I like them so maybe I'm no help here...)

Is there any feedback on the following IdealScope?
