I'm thinking about selling my current diamond to get a transitional cut, but I'm wondering how much I could sell my current diamond for and what I could expect to buy in terms of a transitional cut with the proceeds. Any thoughts?

You can look for prices of RB with the same certification and same VALUES (same color and clarity AND polish and symmetry and cut). Right now Transitionals with GIA certificates are indexed at the same price as RBs.

Is that one eyeclean? It's got a crystal right under the table.

@gypsy I think it would be considered eyeclean. The inclusion that you could see is completely hidden by a prong. I've looked at all kinds of ways and have yet to detect it.

Okay so... I'm confused. If the stone you saw matches that certificate then there should be no prongable inclusion. There is no inclusion on the outside of the diamond of that certificate. The only inclusions are under the table right in the center of the stone-- so I'm not sure what type of prong would be able to cover that up.

Looks like there might be a tiny feather at 9 o'clock? SInce the symbols aren't to scale, I'm going to guess the crystal under the table is, a) small, and, b) camouflaged by the faceting.

As for the value ... hm. It's not a 1:1 ratio. You're talking about selling at second-hand prices, and then buying ... retail? If that were the case, your stone would be smaller, and maybe lower in one or two of the C's. On the other hand, if you wanted to buy pre-loved ... if you hunted carefully, I think you should be able to get something of equivalent quality.

That said, if you have a trade-in policy, I would highly recommend employing that instead. If not, maybe contact some of the vendors to see if they'd be willing to accept it in trade?

@gypsy- IDK. I had it came appraised from the vendor and I got it done at a third party too. I wonder if I am confusing that they said about my first stone as opposed to this one. Either way I can see no inclusions.

@circe- I'm hoping to go bigger with the next one, but I don't think my vendor deals in transitional cuts. Guess it wouldn't hurt to ask. I went from a .90H to a 1.16J and I'm hoping to go to 1.30 to 1.40H/I. I'm sure I will have to put out some additional funds. And thanks to Pricescope I feel somewhat normal for doing so since in the real world people think I'm crazy for this and maybe I am.
