Hi,

As background, I am in Singapore and I am looking for a proposal ring for my gf. A jeweller offered me the following 2 round brilliants. And I have the following queries and I hope to have the views of the folks on this forum.

1) Does anyone know the current Rapoport prices of the two stones

2) Should I pay the premium for a VS2 over a SI1 when whats important to me is that the rock has no flaws to the naked eye. I don't wish to sound insincere but I want a 'cost-effective' diamond. I will have many more things to pay for very soon.

3) Am I overpaying or getting a good deal for the two stones?

4) What would be your preference?

Diamond 1 - GIA cert - G colour / VS1 / Triple excellence / No florescence / Table: 58% Depth 61.2% / no natural indentation and naturals / Price of US$9190.00 (includes taxes 7% and 18k WG simple prongs setting)

Diamond 2 - GIA cert - G colour / SI1 / Triple excellence / No florescence / Table: 58% Depth 61.6% / no natural indentation and naturals / Price US$8383.00 (includes taxes 7% and 18k WG simple prongs setting)

Both have been represented to me as within the ideal proportions. I have checked online and it appear to fall within GIA's ideal proportion.

Hi OP, I'm usually a value shopper and usually go with the lower price assuming the Si1 is eye clean and the inclusions do not impact light performance, saving $800. On the other hand, $800 seems very reasonable to jump 2 clarity grades. Up to you, if $800 is needed to pay for other things, then save the money!

Hi Harrye and welcome!

For us to evaluate the cut of these diamonds, we need some more information please. Can you link to the diamond grading reports or post all the proportions, crown and pavilion angles etc? That will give us a lot more info so we can assist you better.

Hi OP and GM Lorelei! Good point, had a glass of wine last night, first things first...cut being king. Let's make sure there's a sparkler in those 2 being offered, LOL. I think I'm on a diamond high as I have my own I'm in the process of acquiring (wiring funds, getting appraiser, inspection period, all that). I'll post more when the time comes. Now, back to finding this poster a fabulous stone!
