Hello Diamond Guru''s. I know that you usually would need to see a diamond but I happened across one on Dirtcheapdiamonds.com that has sparked my interest. The stock number is 2021367 it is a 1.08ct - vs2 - color F. The measurements are as follows 6.69 - 6.64x4.01mm. The percentages are Depth 60.1%, Table 60%, Crown 13.8% Pavillion 43.3% I know the cert is EGL. Whats your opinion on this rock from the detail provided. Also note that the price is $4,003. Seems like a good stone with the some good measurements, any advice you could give on why this stone seems to be priced so low / fairly??? Or whether it is worth picking up??? any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!!

Possibly priced so low because of the cut. 60/60 stones can sometimes be lovely but you'd need more information such as crown and pavilion information from DCD (Ask for a Sarin report) to get more information.

The EGL report has %'s which I ran through the HCA. It gives is a 2.3 VG but %'s are not as accurate as angles. So the same stone, with accurate crown and pavilion angles vs % may be more like a 3 VG. Which is not horrible...it's acceptable, depends on what your budget is and where your priorities lie. Are you maximizing budget for size and sacrificing some cut? If so, this would be a contender for a great stone for you.

A comparably priced stone would be something like an excellently cut H&A I SI1 1.05c or similar stone for $4100. So in this instance, you can keep the excellent color and clarity of the 60/60 and have it not be quite as well cut which may impair sparkle and fire...or go top notch well cut and sacrifice color/clarity. Just a few comparisons...again it comes down to your priorities.

Good luck!

Thanks Mara,

The most important things to me are:
it looks "white" I am not personally a fan of warm stones.
it is super firey and has good scintilation. The more it dances the better!!!
And it's a carot or better

besides that i'm open for anything.

Thanks,
Rob

If you want super scint, fire, brilliance...focus on the cut. The cut is what makes it 'dance'...not the color or clarity.

White...you can go up to G or H color and still see a white diamond.

Hey Mara,

I have seen the G color in person, and you are absolutely correct that I can go to G, H I have not seen in person but those colors are definately NOT out of the question. And i think the prices in that range can be substantially cheaper. What is your opinion on the EGL cert's though, I hear such mixed reviews on people who swear by tem and others who wouldnt touch them with a stick.

thanks,
Rob

egl - New York usa - while not considered as exacting in their grading as gia and ags it is atleast ballpark.
egl - Isreal - might be spot on, might be one or 2 grades off, there isnt anyway to know for sure without retesting.

So it really depends on where the diamonds in question were graded wether the cert is trustworthy.
