My hubby called Eric and asked about appraisal. Sadly he wasn''t interested at all, or even helpful

bit dissappointed, thought he would be more helpful and friendly. When my hubby asked if he knows some appraisal in hatton gardens we could ask for favor, he said we could go and ask around, but defintely not his office..[

I just want to check that you weren''t asking him to appraise it for free, as a ''favour''? Appraisals do cost money, each person charges a different amount, so there isn''t really anyone who will do it for a favour...

I also want to reiterate what Lorelei said a few pages back about color being unrelated to sparkle. Your E color diamond will look whiter when viewed from the side, and crisper when viewed from the top compared to a lower color diamond, but the sparkle you speak of is related only to cut quality.

no nol. i certainly didn''t mean that. I am all full aware of the valuation/apprasial comes at a price, and we know we need to pay up to 100 pounds. That''s fine.

Otherwerise,to have it valued, it needs to be posted to Birmingham, and return within 10 days ish..

Not sure where in London you''re from but they are doing an event day at H Samuel, Woolwich on the 08/05/09 or David M Robbinson, Canary Wharf on the 19/05/09 or Ernest Jones, Croydon on 20/05/09.

Their search function for event days is a bit crap, if you dont mind travelling then I recommend you give them a call and see where and when the next event is.

i read this thread and got the feeling you have been handing it a lot, and saw you received numerous recommendations to clean it - but the closest response i saw from you was that you had rinsed it in water. that''s not the same as cleaning it. go back to lorelei''s post about how to clean it effectively with ammonia, water and detergent and give it a proper cleaning. stones are NOT always pristine when they come from the vendor and you cannot underestimate how much difference half a dozen finger marks will make on the sparkle of a stone.

if you''ve already cleaned is as per lorelei''s suggestions, then ignore this post. but if you havent - give it a try; you might find starting with the basics first helps no end.

I took a friend''s ring off her yesterday and had to spend 30 minutes with a baby toothbrush and 4 goes through my ultrasonic to clean it up (hadn''t been cleaned since June last year!!!

) She couldn''t believe the difference when I had finished.

I clean my e-ring at least once a day, through the US once a week and keep it in a film-pot of warm water/jewellery cleaner (with ammonia) and dish soap at night. Most people on PS would clean their rings everyday I would guess.

You can pick up a small digital ultrasonic on ebay for about £30.

I start to love it now, when it''s in day time, it''s very sparkling

, with loads of rainbow .. Women ! always crazy about diamond !. never enough

. had a look at their signature cut ! they are lovely, pretty pricey too !. guess the more money you pay, obvious the better everything you get. For the E VS2 same size, signature cut and ideal cut''s difference starts from 600 GBP . maybe for next upgrade !!!

despite saying that, this is already my upgrade.

For a quick clean anything with a grease cutting agent will work. Soft toothbrush, hot water and shampoo, or detergent like Dawn, is a decent cleaner.

Ammonia is in a lot of household cleaners- Windex for example. You can mix Windex & water, which is what I typically do.

Yep! Hot water and a small squeeze of some Dawn or shampoo. For a ring or set stone, I use a custard ramekin to soak stuff in it''s really grubby, or just use a toothbrush to scrub if not. For loose stones I do it a bit differently: I make sure the stopper is in the drain, toilet lid is closed etc, then wash the stone in the soap/water mix while holding it in a washcloth and from there, pop it into a dry cloth without touching it. That way you don''t actually touch the stone at all, and defeat the purpose of cleaning it.

Ahahah.. certainly !!!! Remember once I almost lost my diamond earring stud.
So glad, as I dropped it, it bounced many times, and from washing basin, to bath tub, at the end, it fell in the corner of bath tub, just a few centimeter from the other drain

.. so.. bit away from my expectation when i see a very white stone....

It is because of color ( less white ), or it''s just the lightening ? or just the photographer skills ?
