First of all, bear in mind that I live in Germany, where diamond solitaire engagement rings are not nearly as common as the US, and 0.5 ct is a big diamond for anyone who is not a wealthy Munich resident - either of these stones is going to be huge around here!
With our PS discounts a place I''m not going to mention because I don''t want someone to snag one of them, these stones are within $300 of each other, and within budget, so that''s not a consideration at this point. I know that the VS1 and especially the VVS2 clarity will strike a lot of you as overkill, but it''s hard finding great stones between .75 and 1 ct! Plus, my fiance admires the idea of getting something fairly close to perfect - I did convince him that D IF was complete overkill, and that H was not going to look yellow!
The 0.9 H VS1 has great crown and pavilion angles (34.6, 40.8, table 58%, depth 61%, HCA 1.4) - the only reason it appears to have failed making the cut for AGS 0 was the polish and symmetry merely being Excellent, and perhaps being on the line of AGS 0 due to its table size.
The 0.8 F VVS2 is AGS 0 and one of the well-regarded H&A lines (HCA 1.4 and smack-dab in the middle of AGS 0 range for its 55.6% table, 61.3% depth, 34.8 crown and 40.8 pavilion) and more expensive by $300.
I care slightly more about fire and scintillation than brilliance and spread.
I''m pretty sure that either is going to be gorgeous, but I just need to break the tie, so want to hear your opinions. My fiance is ready for me to finish this thing up, not to mention the poor long-suffering sales representative (who will be named when this is all over with), who has put up with me changing my mind a few times after sending in payment...
