0.85 - 0.90 in a Halo setting, noticeable difference?

Hi everyone!

I'm a newbie on this great and informative forum and wanted to introduce myself and say hello. Being a anxious time, I've been searching diligently for the right diamond and have been reading material here since May. I've juggled the idea between buying local (in Canada) and online, but have come to terms that buying online will save me a significant amount of cash.

As of now, I've chosen a setting (halo) and have narrowed down my diamond choices to two (0.85 and 0.90). Both are within budget and and close in price with the 0.85 being a bit cheaper. (Side notes: 0.85 is a H&A vs 0.90 a v. good GIA cut). My question is whether these with have a noticeable visual difference in size, especially in a halo which ultimately will boost the overall size in the end. I understand that compromising in one area may be necessary, which I am open to. Oh and the ring finger size is 4.

Look forward to anyones thoughts on this. Thanks in advance!

What are the actual dimensions of the stones? If the 0.9 isn't ideal cut it may be hiding weight and still measure the same diameter as the 0.85. Personally I'd take the 0.85 hands down simply due to the cut quality - and a well cut stone will face up larger than a not-so-well cut stone of the same weight most of the time. And no, you won't notice the difference in a halo anyway.

Is the H&A an AGS 0 or GIA EX cut? If so I would go with the better cut. IMO 0.85 vs 0.9ct is not a memorable size difference, especially in a halo.

You compare size by the diameter measurements. I'd choose the .85 over the other simply because I wouldn't choose a very good cut. But it would be interesting to at least see the diameter measurements to see the difference.

You can also maximize finger coverage with an airline around the stone (see my stone in the avatar). My stone is .88 and 5.5 mm across, for reference. I would recommend the best cut possible.

In my opinion I would go for the HnA for a 0.5 change in carat size which in a halo would be neglible!

*.05 difference...but yes, definitely negligible! OP especially with the 0.85 being a better cut, it is probably going to be a better looking stone anyway.

Whoops yes of course 0.05 is neglible not 0.5 (that you would see!) I just think HnA are such beautiful stones

definitely 0.85 H&A :D

Thank you all for the prompt responses. Your input is greatly appreciated. As expected I just wanted some unbiased assurance that the carat weights weren't going to make a big difference. I actually just received a evaluation report from the gemologist and like most of you, has recommended the 0.85 over the 0.90 in all aspects of brilliance.

Excited to say that I'l be placing the order on the 0.85 H&A very soon. Thanks again!
