Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a diamond for an e-ring within a $1500-$2000 budget, and found this one.

0_2.jpg

Carat weight: 0.69
Certificate: GIA
Color: D
Clarity: I1 (Feather, Crystal Finish)
Cut: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Very Good
Depth %: 60.7
Table %: 60
Crown ∠: 33
Pavilion ∠: 41.2
Girdle: Medium-Slightly Thick
Fluorescence: Medium Blue
L/W/D: 5.73 x 5.68 x 3.47

I'm wondering if it's too risky to get a diamond like this without looking in person...

I'm worried about the I1 clarity. It doesn't look too visually offensive to me, but I've never seen an I1 diamond in person so I don't know. :S

Also, I've heard the fluorescence in a higher color grade diamond will appear 'milky' under normal lighting. Does anyone know if it's true?

Would be nice to hear your opinions!

Re: 0.69 ct D I1 with medium fluorescence - What do you thin

I would prefer to drop a few shades in color and get a stone that is eyeclean. usually si1 or above. fluorescence is usually fine but you'd be best off asking the seller to look at the stone in person to assess if its eyeclean and if the fluorescence has a negative impact

It's up to you. If it's from JA and there's a video of the stone, I wouldn't worry about buying it. But, the stone did score a 2.7 on the HCA...so that plus it being an I1...you probably should talk to their gemologist and ask their honest opinions about how eye clean it is. White inclusions are better.

Thank you both for the reply!

Is the 2.7 score on the HCA good or bad?

Yes, it's from JA so I saw the video, but it's hard to tell if it's going to be eye clean... I will try to ask their gemologist about the inclusions and medium fluorescence.

the goal for an HCA is to get lower than 2 but 2-3 doesnt mean bad. still worth going and getting an aset.

Is there any particular reason you chose a D color? Even if you're color sensitive I still think dropping to an F is a no brainer if you goal is to maximize the wow factor of a stone for your budget. Personally, I'd drop to something in the G-I range, move up to an SI stone, and get the biggest ideal cut stone I could find within my budget. You'd only end up around .2 mm smaller in diameter, and the stone would be an absolute stunner to everyone who sees it, more than making up for the tiny difference in size.

I'd far rather have G-H-I color and higher clarity, epsecially for an engagement ring.

Thank you everyone for advice and suggestions! After much consideration, I've decided to skip on this one, and I'm very close to getting a 0.57, E, SI1, Excellent cut diamond I found.
It's more than 0.1 carat lighter than the 0.69 D/I1, but I think it looks cleaner and has a better proportion too. I tried the HCA and scored 0.9 (59.8% depth, 58% table, 33.5° crown angle, 40.8° pavilion angle). Making the final decision tonight. :) Thanks again!!
