Hi All,

I am wondering what are the chances for round shape diamond approximately 0.5carat with SI1 clarity to be eye-clean.

i am looking at blue nile and james allen webpage for these loose diamond with ideal cut.

how do you think i can be more assured it is eye clean since i am thinking to buy online.

You can ask both vendors to look at the diamonds you are considering and ask them to confirm whether they are eye clean.

Be sure to specify your definition of eye clean (e.g. from the top and sides, 6" away - whatever matters to you).

My diamond from Blue Nile is SI1 and eye clean. Its inclusions are twinning wisps, which I believe tend to be less visible anyway, and I chose it from their Signature Ideal range (as they confirmed to me that all diamonds in this range are eye clean). This meant I was able to choose a larger size and lower clarity without worrying that I would be happy with it on delivery.

I think you have to take each diamond on a case by case basis.

thanks for your sharing,

i am looking at blue nile ideal cut, while they assure me that signature ideal Si1 is being checked for eye-clean and that is why i am wondering about SI1 for ideal cut.

i notice that in the blue nile website or the attached GIA cert doesnt show any sort of magnified diagram of the diamond or the reference diagram that show the inclusion. any idea?

You are probably looking at a GIA dossier report. There's no inclusion plot for such reports. I believe Bluenile has a GCLA report which shows a photomicrograph. Not very useful but nonetheless, better not nothing.

If there is an inclusion plot on the certificate then try to stick with things that are not under the table and are closer to the girdle, as they will be more likely to be hidden by the facet structure more than if it was right under the table.

I have 3 SI1's, including a 0.51ct round, and they are all eye-clean. It can be done. :)

When you inquire with the vendor about the eye cleanliness of the stones in question...be sure to ask whether the stone has any transparency issues as well. Some inclusions such as clouds and twinning wisps may not be obvious to the naked eye but may cause the stone to appear fuzzy or hazy instead of clear and crisp. I believe that in general this occurs more often with stones grades SI2 or lower, however the more stones I look at the more I learn to never say never! ;))

Hi guys,

thanks for the sharing and advise.

im struggling to settle for bigger size (>0.5), Si1, ideal cut or smaller size (<0.5), Si1, signature ideal from Blue Nile. what do you guys think?

A few points, like even .05 cts, can make a significant size difference.

if so will signature ideal and ideal makes a different?

You can get really good Ideal cut stones from Blue Nile - you don't need a Signature Ideal cut. Make sure you run the numbers through the HCA if you're looking at RBs to narrow down the selection. The Blue Nile Signature Ideal range is held by Blue Nile; third parties hold the rest - that's the main difference.

Thanks Pommelina.

what do you all think for a medium florescence diamond?

I think medium blue fluorescence is usually fine but apparently can impact on the odd diamond negatively. Worth asking the vendor to check it isn't oily, milky or hazy but my understanding is that it should be fine.

are you open to pre-love?

there is an 0.5ct Brian Gavin, I, VS2 on craiglist for 1600 obo. It's already in a 950 platinum solitaire setting
