I am undecided between these two diamonds, but some points to help me decide. I am looking for stone ..

1. both are the same price

2. color: am not particulary concerned about the color, hence ok with G,H, I color which I believe will give a very very slight yellowish tinge. stone to be mounted in yellow gold, with platinum prongs. from what I have read it seems yellow mounting will anyways impart some color, so paying extra for better color doesnt make sense, but would pick whatever is ''perceived'' better given the same cost. but one of the stones has fluoroscence with better color. completely confused here ...

3. clarity: SI2 expecting it to be eyeclean. if defects are not visible in a casual glance, I am ok with it. have asked for location of feathers etc to make sure its not unappealing. any precautionary note from the experts?

4. cut: what I am really looking for is visually pleasing sparkle. if it looks good sitting across the table in a restaurant, or when somebody watches over my shoulders while I type -- I will be a proud owner. with that in mind, I decided my primary goal is to get good light - that seems like cut - to be measured by HCA in general. so I took score 1.2-1.5 as my target. one of the stone is round ideal, other one 0 (H&A). besides HCA score, what reports should I judge? sarin for measurement accuracy, idealscope for light analysis.

5. Carat: I wouldn''t like to pay extra for heavier diamond, but pay for ''bigger'' looking diamond. this is one point where I am to unsure. are the girdle too thick that I am paying $$$ for optically ''dead'' weight? the dimensions look almost the same, so they are same size. hca spread ratings are similar, so visually they should look the size they are.

HCA: 1.2-ex-ex-ex-vg | 1.2-ex-ex-ex-vg
Shape: Round Ideal | Cut 0 (H&A)
Carat: 0.57 | 0.61
Color: F | I
Clarity: SI1 | SI1
Depth: 60.4 | 62.1
Table: 55 | 56
Crown Angle: 34.6 | 33.8
Pavilion Angle: 40.8 | 40.9
Girdle: Med-Slight Thick | 1.5-2.2
Polish: Excellent | Ideal
Symmetry: Very Good | Ideal
Culet: None | Pt
Fluorescence: Medium Blue | None
Measurements 5.41-5.45X3.28| 5.41-5.44*3.37

what''s the verdict?

I would get the F: it's whiter, has a better cut and the diameter is extremely close to the 0.61's. The med blue fluorescence should be negligible.

For the same price (and assuming eye-clean) I would get the F. They have almost identical diameters, so they will look like the same size, and the F is 3 color grades better. Med. blue fluorescence will not have a negative effect on the appearance of the stone (in fact, it may make it look whiter).

only advantage I see in the one with worse color over the F is that it has got H&A. both seem to be AGS0 - I am not particular about H&A as long as the cut is 'good'.

correct me if I'm wrong - having H&A doesnt make it any better, but it is a clean symmetry that many people prefer. right?

I'm not sure if you left out the links on purpose. These are the stones:

#1 -- White Flash

#2 -- Good Old Gold

I suppose I would go with #1 over #2, but it would be nice to have the same information as you have on #2 to compare -- ISee2, brilliance scope, etc.

It seems silly to pay the same for a stone that will have the exact same diameter and is three grades lower in quality, *as long as #1 performs as well as #2 and has acceptable inclusions.* Otherwise, you might consider #2 or keep looking.

I guess I always assume that people leave out the links because they'd prefer not to identify the vendors to avoid any bias.

As far as the b/scope, etc. goes, I'm only aware of two vendors who offer all of these bells and whistles. I tend to view these more as "nice to haves" instead of "must haves" myself. I think the most important criteria for any purchase is "who has the stone that most closely fits what I want?".

That said, I'd also chime in and select stone #1.....not because of who the vendors are but because it's the same diameter, same price, and the first has proportions I find more favorable.....and better color for no extra money.
