“Soldered” my 1mm spacer band to my engagement ring.

Hello, I have a 1 mm spacer band that I wear between my eternity band and my engagement ring to prevent the diamonds in my eternity band from damaging the prongs on my engagement ring. However, there is always a gap between my engagement ring and my spacer band that bothered me. I recently purchased what can best be described as curable ring-sizing glue. I applied some of this glue along the inside shank of my engagement ring, and also my spacer band and cured them together under the accompanying LED lamp. I no longer have a gap between the spacer band and the engagement ring, because the glue has fused the two together. And this fusion can easily be undone by soaking the rings in very hot water. In the event that anyone else is bothered by the gap between their spacer band and engagement ring, I wanted to share this. The photo is a bit blurry, but hopefully you can see what I’m talking about.
 
Some of these types of glue can cause allergic reactions aka rashes so test on something not valuable first.
Anyone you hand the ring to get cleaned needs to know about the glue.
I suspect many jewelers will simply hand it back refusing to work on it.

I had previously used it to size my engagement ring. Fortunately, I did not have any adverse reaction. I brought both my spacer band and my engagement ring to a jeweler to have them soldered, but he was unable to do so due to the engagement ring being platinum and the spacer band being gold. Said he needed a special laser, and I would have to leave my rings with him overnight, which I was not willing to do. That’s when the idea to use the sizing glue to fuse them together occurred to me. If I had to take my engagement ring to a jeweler I could simply soak off the sizing glue in some hot water first. It’s easy enough to reapply. To be clear, obviously this is not the same as actually soldering two rings together. But for anyone who also might be bothered by the gap between the spacer band and engagement ring, this might be worth a try.

Well, if ever you reach a point where the glue doesn’t work, you can always get a 1mm spacer band in platinum and have it soldered to your e- ring.

I did speak with the jeweler about that, but it was several hundred dollars for a platinum spacer band, and my gold spacer band is fairly new, so I was hesitant to do that. So far the glue has been holding up very well. I think my rings look so much better without the gap between the spacer ring and engagement ring. Now the spacer band really is practically invisible. Using the glue is a good way to see if one likes the look.

you can get 1mm Platinum spacer ring/bands on Esty for under $100....

Darn. I wish I’d known about these platinum spacers before I bought the gold one. Likely someone sent me this, but I had been looking at so many that I was probably overwhelmed.
 
Thank you everyone for the helpful suggestions. Maybe down the road I will bite the bullet and purchase a platinum spacer band to solder to my engagement ring. For now, I’ll just see if I like them soldered together with the glue. So far, I think it’s working out very well And I think it’s a much better look.

Hello and thank you for reading my post. I followed MissGotRocks’ advice and purchased a very thin white gold spacer band to wear between my platinum engagement ring and platinum eternity band. And MissGotRocks was correct in that it was barely noticeable. However, there was always a gap between the spacer band and the engagement ring and it was starting to annoy me. I just had the spacer band soldered to the engagement ring and I’m very pleased with the results. The jeweler also dipped the spacer band and engagement ring in rhodium so that everything is the same shade of white metal. If anybody is considering doing this, I highly recommend it.
