Dad recently gave me this 1920's old broken setting that belonged to my grandmother. The diamond was removed in the 1980s. I decided to restore it. Here are a few photos I took along the way.
I replaced the diamond with a white sapphire. The old setting was pretty hacked up from the removal of the diamond, so I had to concoct a way to hold the new stone in. I decided on a semi-bezel, and it worked out nice.

Now if I only had a milgrain tool, I could replace the milgrain which is largely worn off the edges.
There is barely a hint of it left.
They only cost about $15. Maybe I'll get one and milgrain everything in my jewelry box!

OMG! So if I understood right, you could do the milgraining yourself? I’m quite jealous! I would milgrain the half of my jewelry if I could do it!!:mrgreen2:

There's a small tool that creates the rows of bumps we call milgrain.
You can see it being done on Youtube. It is very fascinating! There are so many cool tools.

Stracci, wow, very impressive! You did a beautiful job on the ring, the bezel looks terrific. The milgrain tool sounds intriguing, I'll have to check it out!
