This week’s featured jewel showcases a rare colored gemstone we seldom see on the forum, alexandrite! Thanks everyone for sharing your gorgeous jewelry in the Show Me the Bling forum!
If you’re new to color-change gems, alexandrite–a variety of chrysoberyl–is the most notable example of this unique gemological phenomenon. JoCoJenn’s 2-carat natural alexandrite changes from green in daylight or fluorescent light to a purplish hue in incandescent light. These gems are notoriously hard to photograph, and JoCoJenn has done a great job capturing the distinct color change–it’s like a new ring in every picture!
