I did this also, almost immediately after we booked our venue with our date...and I had mixed results lol. May 1:

May Day, Labour Day, Workers' Day, Day of the International Solidarity of Workers.
Yom HaShoah - Holocaust Remembrance Day, national holiday in Israel
Czech Republic - "National Love Day" – couples tend to flock to the memorial of the poet Karel Hynek Mácha in Prague and kiss.
Lei Day - Hawaiian holiday for the Lei.
Beltane, Lá Bealtaine, the first day of Summer in modern Ireland was celebrated by the Celts, and is now also celebrated by Neopagans and Wiccans.
Northern Europe - Walpurgis Night.
Roman Empire - all-female festival in honour of Bona Dea.
Roman Empire - fourth and last day of the Floralia in honour of Flora.
United States - Law Day, U.S.A., Loyalty Day.
Malta - public holiday (L-Ewwel ta' Mejju (1st May Day), or Jum il-Ħaddiem (Worker's Day)).

I obvously knew it was May Day, which I was somewhat cool with. I have this funny picture in my head of my FI at the alter yelling "May-Day, May-Day" and trying to run away as I'm walking down the aisle.

I'm really not stoked about Holocaust Rememberance day. It's a long story, but I find it really ironic that it happened to fall on the day we picked.

National Love day? - Awesome!
Lei Day - Also cool, plus we met in Hawaii...might have to factor that in to the wedding
Beltane - Cool, my mom's family is completely Irish, so I already kind of wanted some Celtic stuff in there
Loyalty Day - Seems Appropriate

Some other things:

1707 - The Act of Union joins the Kingdom of England and Kingdom of Scotland to form the Kingdom of Great Britain.
1785 - Kamehameha, the king of Hawaiʻi defeats Kalanikupule and establishes the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi.

1930 - The dwarf planet Pluto is officially named.
1931 - The Empire State Building is dedicated in New York City.
1948 - The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) is established, with Kim Il-sung as president.
1956 - The polio vaccine developed by Jonas Salk is made available to the public.
1961 - The Prime Minister of Cuba, Fidel Castro, proclaims Cuba a socialist nation and abolishes elections.
1971 - Amtrak (the National Railroad Passenger Corporation) is formed to take over U.S. passenger rail service.

Iwanna,
Rockyhorror Picture Show also came out on 9/27! 1976 actually, and I was born! woo hoo, and every once in a while it is Yom Kippur. Nothing like fasting and atoning on your b-day. But if you work in a Jewish area, you might get your anniversary off every once in a while.

Okay, my date is Sept. 19:

Good
1819 - Poet John Keats inked one of the best-loved English poems, "Ode to Autumn".

1876 - Melville R. Bissell of Grand Rapids, MI patented the carpet sweeper on this day. The name, Bissell, became synonymous with carpet sweepers during the first half of the 20th century.

1960 – The Twist hits number 1.

1970 - "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" was seen for the first time on CBS-TV. It became one of the most successful television shows of the 1970s. The last, original episode aired on September 3, 1977.

1974 - Eric Clapton received a gold record for "I Shot the Sheriff". The song reached #1 on the pop charts on September 14th.

1981 - For their first concert in years, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel reunited for a free concert to benefit New York City parks. The concert attracted a crowd of 500,000 people in Central Park and was broadcast to a TV audience in the millions.

Bad
1881--President James Garfield died of a gunshot wound inflicted by a disappointed office seeker the previous July 2.

1934 -- Bruno Hauptmann was arrested for the Lindbergh baby kidnap-murder.

1955 -- President Juan Peron of Argentina was deposed and exiled after a military coup.

1957 -- The United States conducted its first underground nuclear test in the Nevada desert.

1985 - The first of two killer earthquakes hit Mexico City. This one, 8.1 on the Richter scale, crumbled buildings and killed almost 10,000 people.

1988 - U.S. diver Greg Louganis struck and injured his head on the board in a preliminary round of springboard diving at the Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. Days later, however, Louganis won the gold medal in springboard diving.

1994 -- U.S. troops entered Haiti to enforce the return of exiled president Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
2001 -- The Pentagon ordered combat aircraft to the Persian Gulf following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks

Mine was September 9. Another depressing day in history as Iwanna noted but there are also a few more or less positive moments.

2004 - Australian embassy bombing: A bomb explodes outside the Australian embassy in Jakarta, killing 10 people
1993 - The Palestine Liberation Organization officially recognizes Israel as a legitimate state
1971 - The four-day Attica Prison riot begins, which eventually results in 39 dead, most killed by state troopers retaking the prison.
1965 - Hurricane Betsy makes its second landfall near New Orleans, Louisiana, leaving 76 dead and $1.42 billion ($10-12 billion in 2005 dollars) in damages
1956 - Elvis Presley appears on The Ed Sullivan Show for the first time.
1922 - Greek-Turkish war has ended with Turkish victory over the Greeks.
1850 - California is admitted as the thirty-first U.S. state.
1791 - Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States, is named for President George Washington.
1543 - Mary Stuart, at nine months old, is crowned "Queen of Scots" in the central Scottish town of Stirling.

And the most important one - here in Bulgaria 9/9 is generally not everyone''s favourite date: 1944 - World War II: The Fatherland Front takes power in Bulgaria through a military coup in the capital and armed rebellion in the country. A new pro-Soviet government is established.
When we announced we''re getting married on September 9 people were like: "Now why would you choose THAT day?!" lol We had to do a lot of explaining that it wasn''t on purpose but just a funny coincidence.
