Wedding you guys wanna hear something CA-RAZY?

one of my best friends and his girlfriend are having a baby, and he''s soon joining the military, so they''re wanting to get married before he leaves, and she''s wanting to have a big deal wedding since she''s never been married before. they came over last night, and she was soooo excited to tell me they had set a date for their wedding--july 5th. JULY 5TH OF THIS YEAR.

somehow, i''ve been recruited to play wedding planner. this may be my goodbye letter--if you see newsclips of the novice wedding planner who threw herself off a building somewhere in the Deep South....that was me.

all joking aside, anyone have any advice? share in my pain? find it (as i do) kind of amusing?

Are you auditioning for Whose Wedding Is It Anyway? Now you could! Ooh or Rich Bride Poor Bride, how''s the budget?

Wow I have TV shows on the brain, so not being helpful. Anyway, this is how I would tackle things (this would be adjusted of course to what was most important to them): venue and catering first, then dress and other attire, bridesmaids dresses, photographer (and videographer if they want one), musicians, cake, officiant, flowers, wedding bands, decorations, favors, groomsmen attire. I think those are the big things and hopefully it seems somewhat logical. Haha.

i was thinking a similar order to that myself, but i had photographer up front with the venue and caterer. thankfully, she''s wanting to use black, white, and red, and she''s cool with the bridesmaids picking whatever for a black dress and her just getting red sashes from somewhere to coordinate everyone, so that shouldn''t be tricky at all. i''m worried about the venue because she keeps saying, "oh, we''re cool. my aunt knows of this place" and seems so lackadaisical about it, and i''m thinking "great she knows OF it--but is it available? has she booked it? what do you know about it?" i''m not worried about her going bridezilla, but her family''s really pushy, and she goes along with it, so that concerns me. she started off wanting blue and purple hydrangeas until her aunt said she had to use black, white, and red. oh, and somehow, my friend (and as a groomsman, my FI) are now wearing kilts. my FI was like "dude...you''re a partially Native American construction worker, and I''m Puerto Rican. We''re like Scotland''s version of The Village People!"

A pushy family can totally be rough. She definitely needs to actually call or give you the place so you can find out if it''s available. So many places are going to be booked!! Ahhh this is making me nervous and I''m not even the planner. I''m not being helpful now.

no, laughing at the Village People story is helpful--i generally aim first and foremost to amuse, so i''m off to a good start! let''s just hope her aunt''s as on it as i''m attempting to be!

Just find them a package wedding deal where all the aspects are included, including photog, cake, etc.

Hey, if that English lady on Wedding SOS can pull a whopper of a wedding off in 48 hours, July 5th should be a piece of cake!!

If they don''t have ideas set in stone, and can be flexible depending upon venues/churches/catering/etc., it can be done. It won''t be easy; just doable.

Hopefully, this couple will be ''low maintenance''.

I like surfgirl''s idea of a wedding package. That''s what my FI and I are doing and they take care of everything, officiant, flowers, photography depending on what package you choose. Even the largest package is very reasonably priced. What city/state are they getting married in?

the down side of a package deal is finding one--they''re getting married in Tifton, GA. The thing is, she''s wanting me to help primarily with aesthetics, but her aunt, who supposedly has all the logistics all worked out, has yet to supply her with ANY information. i hate to say it, but three weeks before, i think there''s very little likelihood of her getting married that day...unless her aunt REALLY comes out of nowhere with EVERYTHING already figured out.

How did this wedding go doodle? Did they wear kilts? Were the colors (black, white, red).. were they pretty? I am kind of using similar colors to those and wondering how they looked!

fate kind of intervened on that one, so it was lucky for me. not so much for her, though--she''s diabetic, and being pregnant put it into overdrive, so the doctor put her on pelvic rest (at three months into pregnancy!). needless to say, trying to throw a wedding when you''re supposed to limit how often you''re moving around postpones things! she''s doing okay now, but she has to be pretty careful, so the wedding is on hold until after she has the baby.

as for the black, white, and red, i''ve attended another wedding that used these colors, and it was very pretty, so go for it!

hahaha...nope. my duties are just postponed until further notice--then i''ll be playing mediator between her and the aunt!!
