Looking at her again, she looks like a woman who was extremely beautiful as a young lady. She''s still beautiful, but I imagine she was quite a looker in her younger days.

My vote is actually no (with or without tattoos). "Beautiful" is not a word I would use to describe this woman.

I voted no.

Her features, even as she has aged, are classically beautiful in my opinion.

Meresal, yes thats what I was trying to say but clearly did not word it correctly or convey my thoughts the way I wanted to.

One comment I read kind of bothered me, hence why I directed my comment as someone being ignorant.

I think she looks interesting, I wonder did they do the tattoo to mar her beauty so she would not be stolen / undesirable or just to mark her as theirs, a possession? Did they only do those who were considered beautiful and it was a honor or did all the young girls have it done? and I also wonder how they are felt about now, are they revered for keeping tradition or if it is felt to be just old fashioned. Very interesting Kenny. I need to google it and read!

If something bother''s you just say what it is... When you say well someone is ignorant , no one knows who you are talking about. It''s ok to disagree with a poster.. So speak up!! I don''t agree with everyone... Gosh it would be a very boring place if we all did!!!

Kaleigh, I agree completely...

I think she is beautiful in an inner confidence peaceful way. There''s a certain calm about her that I find beautiful.

I voted yes. She has a very symmetrical face and strong features. As for the tattoo...not my thing, but I still see beauty.
This is exact thought that went through my head. I find her facial symmetry very pleasing.

If we would not do it to our own faces . . . and no one here probably would . . . then we, in fact, do not consider her ''facial art'' as a thing of beauty.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the truth. Trying not to step on anyone''s proverbial toes is going to be the cause of many a fallen arch someday.
Are you for real here? You''re saying that people can''t appreciate or find beautiful ANYTHING THEY WOULDN''T CHOOSE FOR THEMSELVES?

So - I don''t tan but I can''t find tans beautiful? I wouldn''t have breast augmentation surgery except in the case of reconstruction, but I can''t truly admire someone''s newly adjusted figure?

How self-absorbed & navel-gazing does one have to BE to ONLY appreciate people exactly like THEMSELVES! Gah!

Except, did I miss when you were appointed the communal voice of "we"?
You do not speak for my opinions at all, so please do not purport to.
This may be your "truth", but it would seem from the majority of votes and responses in this thread, it is not that of many others.

Unless of course you think we are all just being PC and you the one keepin it real

Glad everyone else was able to see the ignorance in the comments of that poster.

It just ticked me off big time which is why I wrote people needed to keep in mind different cultures define beauty differently.

Yes. I hope that I someday wear my age and everything that has happened to me in my long life, as beautifully as she does.

okay see I don''t see this woman as beautiful - maybe for me beauty is more than just skin deep - it''s bone deep lol I am not a fan of face tattooing but for whatever reason I can ignore the tats - but this woman without tats wouldn''t look beautiful to me. Weird.

Princess - She seems calm. She is comfortable and showing herself as she is with no qualms no second thoughts. There is no fear in her eyes, no sense of second guessing herself in any way. And as for the peace comment, I don''t think one can truly be at peace until they are comfortable in their own skin, and are confident in the person they are. Wouldn''t you agree? I can honestly say I am not peaceful... because I am skeptical of myself still... among other things.

I don''t know. I think that a person can get to the point where they are at peace without it being related to self-image at all. Just the ability to say ''This is life, this is how it is, this is how it will be, and then I''ll die,'' can bring a great deal of peace and (for me and many people I know) not related in any way to how I feel about myself. Also, I think it''s a very specific cultural construct that one can be comfortable/uncomfortable in their own skin, and I''d argue that it''s very possibly not necessary to many people in the world.

Maybe ''acceptance'' is a better word for what I think she''s projecting, but it makes me feel peaceful.

Kenny, I really wish I could find a print of this picture. I really love it.

Wouldn''t you say though that finding that acceptance requires peace with oneself and how one''s life has turned out? To me that is a part of confidence... you are happy with yourself as you are and have no qualms with yourself.

I hope I''m making sense
40.gif

I think that peace and acceptance are separate from self.

I guess we view them differently then
5.gif
Or at least view the sense of what she exudes differently.

For me a confident woman doesn''t have to be sassy, or willing to strike a pose and scream ''I''m IT''. She can calmly look at you and say it all ''This is me, this is who I am... I am happy with that... and if you aren''t then Oh well.''
I agreed with both the peace and confidence in her - but for me much of her look is serene (peace) but her steady gaze is what exuded confidence to me. Though I think with true security there isn''t necessarily an, " if you aren''t - oh well" at the end... I think with true security there is no longer a comparison with others. I think as long as you''re saying, "I''m this and if you aren''t oh well" it shows only the beginning of that security. I don''t think this face is at the beginning of that road.

That said, this is all total surmisal. I wonder how many of her lines are dictated by her personality.... the other woman has very different lines and they seem to tell a different story (and I don''t mean the tattooed lines). Be interesting to find out how right we are about what character shows on their face!

The question was ''do you say this woman is beautiful?''

Each of us is entitled to answer yes or no.

That various cultures find various things beautiful is fine, but each of us is from our own culture and no matter how PC we are we are not expected to adopt the values of every culture.

Respecting other cultures is wonderful but we do not have to apologize for our own either.

Well said.

Answering that ''Yes, she''s beautiful because she has kind eyes, or a calm demeanor'' is the policitally correct version of the truth. The unadulterated truth is that most of us do not really consider her to be beautiful even if we find her interesting.

I don''t generally succumb to politically correct bandwagon sort of responses and I can assure you that whatever beauty I saw in her face was real. I don''t think I''m as conventional as some. My first thought was on the gaze and her cheekbones then her lips. The tattoo doesn''t detract from me for HER but I will admit for modern day face tats I have seen few I liked. I think your comment about those of us who find her beautiful is more offensive than anyone saying she''s ugly.

Yes, this woman is beautiful.

There is a serenity and dignity in her face.
The tattoos are sort of a subtle overlay
and for me don''t detract from her beauty.

Cehra - just to clarify in case it came as confusing. I didn''t mean for it to translate as "I''m this way and if you aren''t this way then oh well". It was more of a "if you don''t like me as I am, I could care less, I am happy" type of air to a person.... if that makes sense.

Freke''s comment is pretty close to how I feel about her as well.

Btw... I was also bothered by the Spiderman comment.

This is an interesting subject. I''ve found beauty comes from within. But no doubt that beautiful faces are all around us in life. Be it in person, magazines, entertainment and of course the internet. I think she is beautiful in her own way. Even with the tattoos she is more beautiful than I would ever be. I love tattoos but would never do my face.
I intend to embace my senior-ness, I''ve worked all my life to get where I am and for the most part, it''s pretty good.

I think this woman is beautiful with or without the tattoo. When I first saw the pic, her features were more obvious to me than the tattoo. After I noticed the symmetry of her face, the look in her eyes, her exquisitely shaped mouth, then I began looking at the tattoo.

This actually surprises me about myself. I live in a little podunk town where facial tattoos and often tattoos in general are still frowned upon.

Yes I find her to be beautiful, peaceful, and mesmerizing to look at.

I am surprised by how many people are bothered by her tatoos. Regardless of how she got it, by force or by choice, the tatoo is no more distracting or less attractive to me than the nose-rings and eyebrow rings I see many "average Americans" wear.
