would you reply to the thread if a member posted..

That was a pretty ring. Once you share the vendor is actually impossible to hide stats. I believe [from family forum] the vendor was the one who sahred that info, she offers branded cz in many of her designs.

Why on earth would anyone want to pass off a CZ as a diamond?!?! I actually understand it more in real life, but why would anyone care in an anonymous forum. That being said, I want to know know the thread too! I don't think my eye for diamonds is good enough to tell!!!

This has happened before. Someone posted a cz. She was caught bc she also posted about the ring on another forum and said there it was a cz. I think she was called out/reported.

Actually if I'm thinking of the same ring--the asscher with pink halo?--she identified the vendor and a PSer contacted the vendor to ask what the stone was, then reported/outed her here.

Really?! Why would a vendor share personal information about someone's ring?! I'm surprised at that.

As far as fakes go, Leon does set CZs (you can see some of these rings on his website), so even a Leon setting on SMTB is not a guarantee that the stone is real. I assume WF and other vendors will also set a CZ.

I would hope someone would say something. I mean it would feel awful to start a SMTB thread and have NO ONE comment if you thought it was real. I would be incredibly hurt by that. I mean, I'd never knowingly post a fake, but as pointed out people don't always know. I'm not sure snubbing them is the answer unless they're someone who has gleefully admitted to deception elsewhere.

On a side note, I have often wondered if that was the reason people got so many more responses, even as new posters if their rings had a "brand" name on them that was recognized and easily verified like a JbEG, LM, VC, DBL and the like.

I have wondered this, too. But recently several of those vendors have begun setting (and selling) fakes, so some rings from those vendors *could* contain fakes. Though I must admit, I've never understood the logic of putting a fake in an expensive custom-designed setting. But people do it. ETA: Maybe I should have said "But people vary"!

One reason that some people do this is for travel rings. I once did a 4 carat diamond ring for a client who then had a copy made so that his lovely lady could wear the copy during their international travels.

There are many reasons why people would put a nice diamond simulant into an expensive custom designed setting, this is merely one of them.

Wink

I have several friends who have a CZ copy of their ring for such occasions.

I think it's so bizarre that people use the internet to hide behind while telling lies such as "this fake diamond is a real diamond" and just for the attention. I mean I'm sorry but first of all that's not a nice thing to do and as much as I hate to say it I've always found that somehow I get plenty of "attention" just being myself. Yes, some of that is luck, fate, what have you, but seriously, how dull and sad to pull a stunt like posting a fake diamond, or posting how one's DH is going to buy them a 5ct ring when it's not true, or how one has one million dollars but just doesn't know how to spend it, etc. I would report a post showing a fake diamond. Actually, PS rules seem to be pretty clear that if any of us sees anything as a rule violation, we should report it, and we should post nothing.

If the setting is gorgeous I totally understand posting it here, but because of the rules against stimulants you'd have to pretend it was a diamond and hope no one reported you. Mark Morrell just made a stunning lily ring set with a moissanite. I think it's a shame the owner can't post it here (assuming she'd even want to) but those are the rules.

Oh, an exclusive club where only those with the $$$$ to buy untreated coloured stones too can post now????!!! There are lots of us poor sods that own tanzanite (99% of which are treated), so we're out. Some sapphires, I understand, are treated as well.....hmmmm. I suppose the only way to keep it honest is a certificate of authenticity or a piece of the rough from which it came.

If those are the criteria, then it's time to move on :angryfire:

I came in late. Isabel, why has anyone suddenly interpreted Pricescope policies to mean that natural colored stones that have undrgone treatment cannot be discussed? That would virtually eliminate discussion of all colored stones, not just tanzanite. Most rubies are heat treated. All emeralds in Colombia are oiled in the mines. If the administration wanted to shut down the Colored Stones forum, they could simply do so. I think there must be a huge misunderstanding here somewhere!

You are dear to me, Isabel. You are one of the kindest people on Pricescope. I am sure that you are welcome to stay and discuss all your colored stones. I know that I need your companionship here!!!

Love and hugs,
Deb

I actually once reported a cz ring by one of our more famous posters who hasn't been on in a while. Nothing was done. This was about 2 years ago. Do we have to submit proof? I had it.

Choro72 has an amazing custom moissanite ring. She was allowed to post it. It has rose gold tulips and her husband put a TON of effort into it. But she asked first and clarified everything before posting.

That is a stunning and unique set- and there is no way I would have guess it was moissanite from looking at it-

Now that the pink halo type ring was brought up.. I DO REMEMBER thinking it wasn't a diamond. I think it was how it looked in the pictures and knowing how that poster commented on her finances that made me go "hmmmmm"

But I didn't care enough to call her out on it or check on it.. but I also don't care if others do it either!

I loved that ring and actualy tried to "call for" the owner to ask about the stats etc on the ring because I loved it so much and wondering about the ct weight of the stone. Another PS member responded in my thread to me saying it was a CZ ring and that they saw on another forum that the owner sold it.

I've seen some other czs. There was one thread where the person was careful not to mention the clear stones and just talked about the rest of the piece. Not sure if that is deception or not... There was NO attempt on her part to imply they were diamonds.
