Would You Add More Charms To This?

I'm not really sure that 'Charm Bracelets' are very fashionable per se, but I have this heavy Tiffany disc bracelet that I have had for many years. Engraved on the back is medical information about my clotting disorder & blood type. I am supposed to wear this 24/7 & it was what I chose to get when I was advised to wear a 'Medical Alert' bracelet, as quite frankly, the typical Medical Alert stainless steel bracelets made me shudder, as I'm sure fellow PSers fully understand!!

The problem I have with this bracelet is that it is WAY chunkier than I imagined it would be & the disc rattles constantly, which I struggle to make peace with. When my husband bought it moons ago, I wore it constantly on my right wrist for about a month. It really peed me off. I'm right handed & the disc clattered on everything. Everything. The chain is short so it doesn't roll up & down my arm, it's more that the disc is large & very dangly.

So, should I learn to overlook the rattle of the disc & adsorb it as a part of my body? Do I wear it alone on my RH, or stack it with my watch on my left, which I feel it overpowers? And should I add just a couple more sentimental charms, such as one for my children & husband, perhaps in 18ct yellow gold, to jazz it up a bit if I'm to love it more? @MrsKBP has the most BEAUTIFUL charm bracelet in the history of the world stacked with her watch & wedding set (she might attach a pic for me?), but is mine too bulky to achieve that look? And would more charms defeat the purpose & just 'lose' the medical information?

Or.... Can you show me a more lovely & unusual Medical Alert bracelet that you yourself own & wear that's more in keeping with PS taste? Whilst I realise that Tiffany bracelets don't break the bank , I don't think my husband would buy another, lighter chain for me. He doesn't do jewellery.

I like the look of the bracelet! I have a charm bracelet that I wear often that is similar but with a ton of charms. It's by James Avery though and he is quite popular in Texas so people wear them a lot. I do believe the med info might be lost with more charms though. Sorry I'm no help but I do think it's nice as is.

Thanks @ceg You have great taste, so I shall pay attention! You are right & my husband agrees, in that if I add charms to this particular bracelet, the medical information will become a blur in the hustle & bustle. If it were you, would you feel it more classy alone on the right wrist & get used to the clatter every time you reach for something or do something, or stack on the left with other things? I worry about wearing too much & looking like Dame Edna Everidge. I prefer a simpler look.

I'm supposed to wear a medical alert bracelet too. I have a few, but none seemed to work out for me long term for one reason or another. I like that Tiffany one. I'd love to have it in yellow gold, but again, I'm not likely to want to wear the same thing everyday. I spent a lot on a yellow gold "official" type medical alert bracelet and I didn't like it. Hoping someone can point out something I haven't tried yet.:eek2:

Thanks @Alex T! Take pics of it with your watch on the left hand but I worry about it scratching the watch. Also sometimes I stack my charm bracelet (sterling) with yellow gold bangles. I am used to the clatter and even enjoy the sound! Is that weird???

@ceg Here you go. Sorry the pics are indoors - it's evening here now & very dark. I have no worries about scratching my watch as I've worn it daily now for almost 15 years. It's remarkable it looks pristine! Have told hubby I want a Cartier. He rolled his eyes & told me there was nothing wrong with the watch u have....

I like it!!!

Thank you @Matata There are some really pretty bracelets here & I REALLY like the cuffs. I would need something in sterling silver or solid gold due to nickel allergy though, which is part of the problem due to costs. I think i’ll need to get used to the weight & rattle of my current bracelet. And actually seeing it on the pictures with my watch, it doesn’t look as bad as my head imagines it to look!

I have a Tiffany bracelet that’s like yours but it’s a heart instead of the disk. I wear it with two other bracelets..One bracelet is a bangle and the other is a diamond bezel tennis bracelet. It seems to keep my heart in check and I barely notice the jangle..

Hey hun..I wouldn't add more charms, it might confuse the EMTs in a real emergency.
I got mine last year, had it made in sterling, and I just stack the heck out of it. It has a clear symbol anyone can find with all info on the back. It's made by Med-id.com.sorry the pic came in HUGE!!!
will reload smaller!

I actually like the way it looks and feels.20190209_151719.jpg

I love how yours looks stacked! And I actually have a solid sterling silver oval hinged bangle too that I really love , so actually, I might throw caution to the wind & rock the lot! Did the medi company who did your bracelet have to custom do it in sterling silver? And do you mind, pardon my bad manners, in asking how much it cost to have made?

@tigertales This company have a UK site also, which i’ve bookmarked. You’ve been a big help - thank you! But actually, I love your Tiffany with that bangle & I can totally rock that look :)

No problem, Alex!
The Sterling is one of their regular options, so is gold btw, but I like white metals as you can see! So easy to get, and I think it took about a week. I don't remember the cost...so focused on the life saving aspect and recovering I didn't care. Maybe $70 or so?
oh, and I don't know if you're into that kind of thing, but I always have to love the way my bracelets sound together...added bonus, this has a really nice little clinky sound that's cheerful. LOL.
I'm weird, prob.

Glad you are ok! I am often alone with the children (husband is away a lot) & I do feel cross with myself for not wearing it in case anything bad should happen. You have inspired me & I shall try really hard to ignore the clattering. And failing that, a bracelet like yours is around £70 so not unreasonable :praise:

Can you show me a picture of them stacked please, as i’d love to see how it looks on you? Everything always looks so lovely on others, whereas on me I just feel over dressed & urgh....

Yes, Im wondering if your stunning medical alert bracelet doesn’t look enough like a medical alert bracelet so an emergency responder might miss it, especially if more charms were add.
Personally, I’d get a more distinctive and recognizable one, with the medical alert symbol on the front like Tiger Tales. I would get sterling silver, it’s more cost effective.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw how elegant @tigertales bracelet looked. I’m definitely going to have a look through that site she recommended.

20190209_162957.jpg When I don't wear it, I clip it to my wallet or purse and let it dangle like a bag charm.
ha ha!! so chic.
but here is a pic of the chain as it looks most of the time, the tag tends to hang at the bottom, so you see the bracelet itself more often than not.
Hope this helps, and thank you for your good wishes. I was bitten by a spider and am allergic. ick!

I’m out but I can put them together when I get home.i have this old picture where I have the bracelet on but you’ll can’t see the heart in this photo but it’s the one closest to my hand on top. I don’t mind doing it when I get home if you want. I either put in the bangle or the Tiffany beads..

I agree with Bron that medical personnel would not know to look at your bracelet without the symbol. I would get one and stack other bracelets with it..but let the symbol be prominent.

These really do look great on you! It makes it seem less obvious, which sounds weird, but I absolutely hate being singled out & being made to feel weird. Anything I can wear to help in an emergency is great, but I don’t want it to stick out like a sore thumb. Your look is cool & edgy! I bloody hate spiders. We don’t have anything too harmful in the UK thank goodness, but I was bitten by a White Tail in New Zealand many years back. Stung like hell for a few days! Definitely digging the stack with your watch & thank you for the pic!

Thank you for the picture! I really am loving a stack of silver bracelets as they look great on both you & TigerTales. I might try & rock this for a bit, before ordering an ‘official’ medical bracelet, which I am loathe to do...

I would add pretty bracelets with it..but I would have no problem wearing one...really..
Why don’t you wear one on a long chain that goes behind your blouse?

To Bron's point, I had to get the id with the inscribable info on the back...which is hard to to do with the Tiffany. so, it's worth overcoming the concerns about how it looks...I dunno, I just decided it was too big a risk not to. and yeah, if people check it out, well...it WAS weird at first. but sociologically very interesting. not to go off on a tangent ( forgive me Alex) but, watching how people change their attitude towards you when they think there's something "wrong" is fascinating.
the damn spider bite compromised my health for over a year. i was fainting and jazz even after I was over it for quite some time.
I hear NZ has some whopper poisonous creatures! But New England has its fair share!
oh, and I meant to say, your bracelet looks really nice with your watch. If you do decide to get your Cartier, it will get scratched up a bit from stacking, however some people like the look of the patina life gives to not just jewelry, but to us ALL.
:)

I would feel like Mr T, as in the real one, the Crazy Fool! I always have on my diamond solitaire, so wearing another necklace wouldn’t be comfortable for me.

Sounds horrible for you! Do you know what kind of spider it was & are you in the mend now? I cannot stand them. Where I lived in NZ, I had a colony of Tunnel Webs in my garden wall. They’re a cousin to the Funnel Web & look the same, but are the size of a small Tarantula. Their bites are only as bad as a bee sting, but when I called MAAF to get rid of them they refused, as they’re a protected species!! But we did agree that any that found their way into my house (only ever 2) were fair game. Those big hairy bad boys never made it out again!

It’s interesting what you say about people treating you differently. I have never had any issues with my condition throughout my life with the exception of 2 death defying, heart stopping, bleedy C-sections, but when I started work at the Primary Scool (Elementary) that I’m at now, I had to have a full risk assessment with regards to anything that may cause me to get a bruise! Really??!! As much as I laugh about it it now, I, i felt a bit uncomfortable & it did stress me out to feel that they were highlighting me as a risk. Yes, if I fall & crack my head then there is a bleeding risk, as there is with all serious accidents, and once whilst there I cut my finger & went through 4 plasters before it stopped bleeding, but (fingers crossed) that’s as dramatic as I get!

My Tiffany has the plain large disc & the engraving is nice & big & clear on the back with nothing on the other side except the hallmark, so I wouldn’t feel a ‘proper’ bracelet would offer any more safe guarding other than the snakey picture on the front. But then again, that symbol is universal, so I am definitely going to give it some thought. The one that you have with the clasp on the side of your engraved plate doesn’t seem to be available to me on the UK site, which is a shame as I really like yours, but I will continue to mooch around, I slept the whole night last night with my Tiffany on & it actually didn’t bother me too much. Usually I find myself taking it off not long after getting in bed, as the quiet clatter gets my hackles up

Very pretty and I would leave as is because of the reason others stated. I wouldn't want your medical alert to be lost among other charms. If the bracelet is too bulky and/or uncomfortable could you/would you consider a medical alert necklace? Would that be more comfortable to wear?

Hi @Alex T, I can’t wear jewellery for most of my everyday life due to my job, I decided to put my medical info onto my iPhone as it’s pretty much on me or very close most of the time. There’s a medical alert function which emergency services can access without needing to open the phone. Maybe that’s an option for you instead of the bracelet?

This is a great idea & I am definitely going to look into it! I actually have medical emergency cards the size of a credit card, one in my phone case & one in my purse. My phone is with me all the time, either in my bag or pocket, so i do actually come with a health warning
