I am feeling .... what you call it.... work fatigue?

I am sure I am not alone. Could you share with everyone here what strategies you use to successfully...

1) Combat the deadly "procrastination" when your backlog is blinking red light?
2) Being diplomatic in words and action when colleague shows aggression and make condescending remarks towards you?
3) Inspire yourself to toggle the "not want to do" list of things?

Thank you for you sharing your tips for success!

Redecorate your workspace! New plant, change out photos in frames if you have them, buy a new stapler or some other office supply in a cute color, etc. Also, I like to periodically block off some time on a Friday afternoon to go through my "things I keep putting off because I think they''re bullsh*t" list and finish some of it.

When it''s time for me to get things done I start at the beginning of the day.

I put on my most formal professional clothing and make sure to have a good breakfast.
I start work early and do the most difficult tasks first to get them done and out of the way.
I buy a nice lunch and a coffee to have energy to power through the afternoon.
When I''m done for the day I treat myself and give myself permission to totaly slack off for the rest of the day :)

Mental will and physical will are drawn from the same resources in the brain, so don''t tire yourself out physically if you''ve got lots of tough stuff to do.

Snacks to keep the brain going are also important.

You can do it !!

The 1 and 3 I would handle the same way:
Get up early and just start on the procrastination list, if I get discouraged 1/2 way through I will go to " not want to do list"
When I get 1/2 of this done I go back to procrastination list
then I allow myself to take a little break and go back.
I must be 1/2 way done before I stop on both so if I have to finish the following day at least half of both get done.If your lists are longer then at least do 1/4 of it if possible

2) Being diplomatic in words and action when colleague shows aggression and make condescending remarks towards you?
I would try silence if possible sometimes it can be stronger than any words
I am also able to block out and keep working on my task and not hear anything else.( it can be good sometimes or bad too???)
Good luck to you.

For procrastination, I''m often the worst. I wait until the last minute and love that thrill I get in just beating the deadline. Unfortunately, anything that goes wrong tends to make this snowball into a disaster and major life disruption for myself and everyone around, so I have been trying to curb these tendencies in the past few years!

My Mom''s advice was always to do the thing you most dislike first thing and just get it out of the way. Like the motto JUST DO IT.

My best advice, especially for large projects, is just to START. Even if it is only making a plan, sending an email, requesting some info, or calling someone, it starts the ball rolling. It starts the information flow, so you know if there are problems coming up before the last minute. And it is good if your someone asks how the prject is going, you have something you can point to as progress

For bad co-workers, I would try to confide in a friend or partner about it and keep a sense of humor. Go into situations expecting crap and don''t let your guard down. Try to stay professional above all else. It helps if you can meet informally with other colleagues and point out things ("X just seems so negative all the time, but he never comes up with alternative ideas" "X seems to be in a bad mood today-she totally shot my good morning down in the elevator") and also make some pre-arguments for your ideas and points. Try to keep everything non-personal and especially your comments should center on why this person isn''t contributing effectively to the team today. Yeah, it''s passive-aggressive, but sometimes that''s the way politics works.

You all are so GOOD!

I am trying very hard to get myself into a routine! Hopefully it will flow into a steady rhythm soon.

It is hard for me to pretend to like rude and condescending people. I really wish there is a "mute button" where I press and don''t hear her.
