Thought I'd share some interesting deals.

The first is that Windows is selling a downloadable upgrade to Windows 7 to students for $30, all you need is a valid ".edu" address.

Second, World of Goo, a prize winning and very fun puzzle game is celebrating it's one year anniversary (and great success) with a "pay what you want" sale, so you can now buy and download this game to your PC for 1 penny. It's a great game that's kind of like playing legos, and if computer games aren't really your thing, you can download it for you kids/nieces/nephews. It's rare these days to buy something of good quality for only a penny! Offer ends on Oct 25.

ETA: I'm not affiliated with Windows or World of Goo, I'm just a nerd. Haha.

Thanks for sharing on the Windows MTG!
Hrmm..do you think this will work with an edu.au (ie. an Aussie edu?).

this also leads to me to another question...but I''ll start a new thread for that one.

WORDS OF CAUTION

make sure you back up every last thing before trying this!! I just did this night before last, my video and audio drivers (which work perfectly well with Vista) won't let me use aero in windows 7, I couldn't download microsoft's SQL server - it told me to run chkdsk on volume c because my disk was corrupted (which is impossible, since I did a clean install and formatted/deleted my partitions prior...)

I wasted two full days of my life trying to get windows 7 to not screw up my PC, and now I'm back with my perfectly-working good ol' Vista. I've learnt my lesson - I'll be waiting for SP1 to try this again - and calling Microsoft for my $30 back tomorrow morning first thing.

Hi yssie - thanks for the warning - hence my immediate thought to start a thread based on "upgrading" from XP to 7 after seeing MTG's thread!

Sorry you had dramas, but glad to hear nothing is lost..

Looks like no matter what OP you are currently running, a complete system backup and re-format/ re-install is recommended..
