Ellen, no.

Tom Cruise, maybe.... :loopy: ;))

They hired Tom Cruise? I wish he were going to work there instead of playing Jack Reacher. That has had me upset for months.

HI:

No, Deb, that is what I meant....I'd boycott for sure. I already vote with my dollars by not watching TC....anywhere...

cheers--Sharon

I worked for JC Penney a long time ago, in fact, I worked in their "Fine Jewelry" department in two different stores when I was in high school and college. I remember women having to wear skirts, or, if they wore pants, having to wear a jacket that covered their backsides completely. I loved the work but hated the dress code. I was 18-19 at the time, this was only back in 1997 or so? JCP has come a long way!

I really don't pay attention to celebrity endorsements, period. I vaguely recall hearing about this online like a year ago, but couldn't tell you details if asked. My shopping decisions nowadays tend to be based on more important factors (imo) such as ethical business practices regarding the environment, or other "tedious" details like whether a 6 year old girl is making the garment I'm wearing, or whatever. ;))

+1...why is this even an issue in 2012?!?

Perhaps the two (and counting) who voted, "Yes" will tell us why they feel it is an issue.
Though I doubt they will.
The warm, safe anonymity of the voting booth, is so well, warm, safe and anonymous.
Nobody can see who you are.

Perhaps they didn't read the question closely enough and thought you were asking if they would support JCPenney?

One can only hope!

Maybe the Million Bigots found this thread, Kenny :naughty: Bigots like bling, too.

I love Ellen and applaud JCP for their endorsement. I may have to just shop there now...

Those women are Idiots! Maybe the are jealous because they didn't get 12 days of Christmas gifts from her lol!
We support Ellen, she is funny ,kind, genuine and amazingly generous! Always loved her, but since her amazing gift to my niece, we adore her! In face she is invited to the wedding!!!!

I didn't vote because I don't live in the US so this doesn't affect me BUT if you were the 2 people who voted yes would you really come forward and say so? I think there might be a lynching!

Before I go any further, I love Ellen, not really a JCP person, could NOT agree more that a person's sexual orientation is irrelevant to their job , and I did not vote in the poll.

But Maisie makes a really good point.
If someone did feel differently, how could they possibly say so in the midst of this discussion?

I see this all the time in politics now as well.
If we totally vilify the other side, conversation is impossible.
I have found myself in discussions with friends lately defending the side I disagree with- if only because of their vehemence in making points I actually agree with.
(steps off soapbox)

That IS awesome! I hope she does come  so you can meet her!

That is the dumbest thing ever. Ellen is the sweetest, funniest lady. I am not a fan of JCP because we don't have a lot of big stores in my town and if you do buy something to wear there you will likely see many other people wearing the same thing. If I could just see JCP commercial featuring Ellen I would be thrilled. I can think of a whole lot of other commercial I would rather get rid of.

I haven't been shopping at JCP in years, but I'm giving them another look because they hired Ellen.

Ellen might make me shop at JCP again. Maybe. If they had anything I wanted.

Her ads are funny and charming and perfectly 'family friendly'.

Her personal life is none of my business, and I don't care anyway.

Having a celebrity spokesperson does not sway my decision to shop (or not shop) at any particular place. That said, I also think that a gender preference is not, and should not be the deciding factor whether to shop (or not shop) at any particular place. Because the poll is anon, anybody is free to vote for or vote against.

slight threadjack... The reveal is here!! She is amazing! the entire reveal is on Jan 3 on Cousins on CAll on their 1 hour new season premire show.

It's just an Internet forum.
Nobody can touch you, and almost everyone here is anonymous.
People are entitled to their views, even Nazis.
Free speech is a wonderful thing, even if you hold a minority view.
Progress happens as the result of discussion, not silence resulting from fear.

I have been openly gay on the Internet for 10 years, and some of the fora are the opposite of this one in terms of acceptance of gays.
When I believe my views are good and important on a social matter I'm happy to stand by them and discuss, even when only 2% of the room agrees with me.
It's no secret that I don't exactly thrive on agreement with and approval by others.
Perhaps that 2%, or the 98%, can convince others to change their perspective.
We're all grown ups here.

This is just so sad. :(sad

Gay isn't an issue to me. I wish we, as a nation, could move forward. What is even more sad to me is that these mothers are raising bigots and closeted children. I hope these children go off to college and learn to think for themselves.

I like Ellen. I can't think of anything controversial she has said, most of her humor is self-effacing, so why the boycott?

OTOH, what do people think of the boycott Macy's because of them hiring Trump? My sister said she would because she cannot stand the man. Anyways, I think boycotts are interesting (did they arise in the civil rights movement or is that where they had their biggest impact?).
