My BF has been diamond browsing online (PS vendors, I''m glad to say

) and has told people the engagement would probably be end of the summer, early fall. I know he''s probably going to wait until after his quals (we''re in grad school), and those are scheduled for Sept 5. Anyway, knowing him I expected the diamond shopping to take a while - he doesn''t just jump on the first thing he finds for any decently sized purchase.

He always wakes up before me, and I''ve often suspected that he uses that time to do some diamond hunting. This morning, shortly after I woke up, he gets this funny smile on his face like he''s struggling with whether or not to ask something. Eventually he asked whether color or clarity was more important to me (I said color, cuz that''s what my eyes are more sensitive to), but I could tell that wasn''t all that was eating at him. Sure enough, less than a minute later he breaks down and says "I found one I liked.....but it got sold. Every other one I''ve looked at has stuck around a while, so I thought I had time. I''m such an idiot.

I laughed it off and assured him he''d find a better one or something very close to it, maybe the buyer will return it, etc, but of course the thought that the hunt was so close to finishing is torture.

Sigh....maybe this will be a lesson to him and he won''t dare wait on the next one....

haha you know what''s funny? The same situation happened to me! My bf was asking me questions about my setting and asking if i really wanted the diamond that my mom gave me from her engagement ring or if i wanted a bigger one. I figured it was just a regular ring conversation, sighing a bit to myself that he hasn''t even started to design my ring yet. When we went to bed that night he was tossing and turning letting out huge sighs so I asked what was wrong and he said nothing, he doesn''t want to wreck anything so i said it''s about the ring, spill it. He said he went down to get the ring made and found out the diamond was too small for the setting i wanted so now he''s upset because it won''t be perfect and he''s ruined the surprise. i calmed him down then we figured out a way to modify the setting so my mom''s diamond would work and he was happy again! At first i thought for sure i''d know when it''s coming but now i''m soo in the dark (i think thats why he''s waiting so long now, so he can REALLY surprise me!). Aren''t boys the cutest!

anyways, I''m sure he''ll find an even more perfect diamond for you in the near future!!

That''s a bummer...hopefully he''ll find something soon that will be even better

I am sure that he will find another that will be perfect!

Hey, this sounds like me! My then bf found a square shaped sapphire that was a really good deal. But then someone bought it!

Later, we found an even better square cushion cut sapphire, but another couple had it on hold. We were again disraught, but luckily that couple "released" the stone since they wanted a round.
So what I''m tyring to say in a round about way is... it''ll all work out!

Thanks for the support, everyone! I've been distracting myself from the whole ring thing by focusing on getting in shape (something I've always intended to do....), work, and browsing wedding related stuff trying to gather ideas. I'm having the worst time finding reception sites in Pittsburgh that I like that will likely be in our budget (and aren't too far from the airport, cuz most of my family will be flying in). I DID however, change my desktop background to this beautiful photo posted by sunkist in the photo gallery.

That''s too bad about the diamond he chose being sold. I''m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason - I''m sure you''ll get the diamond that you''re meant to have, and it''ll be BEAUTIFUL!

I totally agree with HEA...everything happens for a reason, and I''m sure things will work out as they''re meant to! Keep us posted!

I think he found one!

He''s been super giddy the last few days, telling me how much he loves me 3 times more often than usual, trying to stifle random grins. Oh, and yesterday when we were holding hands his thumb kept drifting to and rubbing/petting the base of my left ring finger. He''s so bad at hiding things....

The question now is how long till the ring is ready, and how long will he make me (and him) wait?? Torture!!!

Hooray for you! Keep us posted and hope it''s quick!

Yay!!!

that definitely sounds very promising! I hope that it happens soon for you!
