How you found PS? What makes you tick? How you met FF? Your favorite things in life or in general?

Ok. Whew… here we go.

I was born in November of 1982, and I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. I lived with both of my parents until I was about 6, and then my parents got divorced. My mom remarried a couple of years later, and I don’t have any sort of relationship with my dad. There is family “speculation” that my dad was paid off by my mom’s dad to stay away from my brother and I after they got divorced. When my mom remarried, I acquired 3 step-brothers in addition to my one biological brother. My biological brother and I are super close. When my dad left, he kind of filled that role for me, as I was never close with my stepdad. He’s the only relative I have living in Michigan with me right now. He’s hated EVERY boyfriend I’ve had with the exception of FF – that’s how I knew he was a keeper. My step-brothers are all crazy. LOL. The oldest is on his second wife, and has 4 daughters and 1 son. The middle step brother is in federal prison for 25 years for transporting 100,000 pills of ecstasy over the border from Canada to the US via the Detroit tunnel. The littlest step brother (he’s 23) is recently married and has a baby. I had a pretty dysfunctional childhood, but I’ll spare y’all the details!

I met my first serious boyfriend when I was 17. We dated for nearly 5 years (until I was 22) before we finally broke up for good. He was cheating on me for at least 3 of them, and was just all around a bad guy. He was extremely emotionally abusive, and I suffered from severe depression throughout a good portion of our relationship. I dropped out of college during that relationship because I couldn’t handle school and having a relationship with him at the same time. A year later, I met FF! Well, not quite…

I actually met FF when I was 19, and on a “break” from the evil ex boyfriend. A good guy friend of mine at the time invited me to a party at his girlfriend’s house at Michigan State University. I was really depressed over the break, and reluctantly went with him. Just so happened FF was there that night, and we met for the first time. He thought I was cute, and kept trying to cheer me up over my stupid ex. I was just not having it! Someone happened to snap a picture of us at that party where he’s smiling and trying to cheer me up, and I have the meanest look on my face. LOL. Leave it to FF to still be sweet when I’m being a cranky brat. I didn’t see FF again until years later after the ex and I went through about 3 more breakups. That same mutual friend that FF and I had ended up inviting me to a Halloween party in 2005 which also happened to be my 23rd birthday. I was single, and a LOT happier. Well, I ran into FF at that party! He was single too, and we spent the whole night flirting and having fun. He said it was so nice to see me so much happier than I was with my ex. We dated casually for about 2 months, and on January 7, 2006 we officially became a couple. Now, we’re going on three years together and hopefully getting engaged in the first half of 2009.

There’s my brief history! Now onto the fun stuff:

How I found PS: I was searching for information related to LIWitis (although that was not the term I googled. Hehe) and found PS. When I found the LIW section, I knew it was where I belong! I posted there for a while before I moved on to other forums, and discovered an unknown interest in diamonds. I’ve learned so much from the people and information on PS and I’ll be forever grateful! I love this site, and it’s such a huge part of my life now. You guys hear more about my life than my best friends do!

What I like: Animals. I love animals. I volunteer at a local humane society. I have two rescue cats of my own, Ferris and Nietzsche. Ferris’s owner died, and I adopted him in high school when he was 2. He’s now 12, and such a sweetie. Nietzsche was just recently adopted, and is me and FF’s first pet. His owner left him behind in an apartment when they moved out. He’s the dumbest cat I’ve ever met, but such a sweet little guy. Love both my babies! I also have a fish named Max, he’s a beta. (Get it? Beta Max? HA!) Finally, there is Franklin, our cockatiel. All these pets in our small one bedroom apartment!!

I also love traveling, shopping, sushi, fine dining, black & white photography, anything haunted, Tetris, the color pink, and reading. I’m sure there’s more, but lately a lot of my free time is studying ( I graduate in April. YAY!!!)

Biggest pet peeve: People who refuse to acknowledge how they can make themselves better. I hate when people settle. Also, I hate when people who use the self-checkout at the grocery store that don’t know how. LOL

Best Personality Trait: I’m very empathetic and caring. My friends consider me their personal therapist!

Worst Personality Trait: I’m closed off and secretive.
Future aspirations: I’d love to one day run a no-kill animal shelter.

Second- I feel so close to you since I live in East Lansing right now! I think it''s awesome to have a fellow PSer from MI! That is sooo crazy about your middle step brother- I have been in that tunnel a bunch of times!

It''s nice putting a name to a face... I''m pretty sure you and I joined around the the same time

I grew up in Okemos so right next door to E.L! I didn''t want to thread jack but I love it back there. My mom and one of my sisters are still in E.L.. I''ve been in NYC for qutie a few years now and I doubt I''ll ever move back but I do like talking about it. Anyway...just wanted to say.

I lived in East Lansing, also! You go to MSU, right? I went there right out of high school, but ended up dropping out after my first semester. I wish I would have stayed -- I loved it up there! Such a fun school - and really big!

It''s such a bummer about online places - you meet such cool people that you''d probably love to have in your life, but of course it''s impossible. Especially on PS, because all the people here are so cool.

I could be wrong though.

I too am a HUGE animal lover. (A vegetarian to be exact) I think that''s just wonderful that you take the time to volunteer at a local humane society. I applaud you for that! I''ve thought about doing something like this. My little angel doggie passed away 3 years ago (at 16) and I adored her so...We grew up together. I love dogs so so very much. I feel like I always want to have a dog but I was so attached to her that it is something that is incredibly hard to get past. So I''m not sure if I ever will get another dog.

But like I was starting to say, I''ve thought about volunteering with something that has to do with dogs so that I can at least spend time with them and make them happy and in turn, be happy with the dogs too!

BTW, I HATE when people settle too. lol

Ahh! I totally know about the PS friend thing! I swear (and I''m NOT exaggerating here) that I feel closer to some people on PS than my real friends. You guys certainly know more of my juicy details!!! The last few years I''ve kind of grown apart from a lot of my friends, and haven''t found new ones. I still have my older friends, but it''s just not the same anymore. Kind of lonely in friend land lately. Plus, I''m one of the "older" students in college, and don''t have a lot in common with the people in my classes. I guess making fun of professors and speculating on their sexuality while talking about how wasted I got last weekend isn''t really my M.O. anymore.

Oh DG, animals are my LIFE. I should post a picture of my cockatiel, too. Our apartment is overloaded with pets, and I can''t wait to buy a house. We''ll be getting two puppies once we get a house. So we''ll have 2 cats, 2 dogs, a bird, and a fish. It''ll be a damn zoo! I always say my outfit is never complete without the pet hair!

Sorry about your doggie.

I know how hard it is. When my cat dies, I swear I''ll be out of work/school for a week. I''m so attached. Sometimes I think it''s unhealthy. LOL. I just can''t get enough of them!!

Volunteering is such a great experience. It''s just a 1-2 hour a week commitment, and the animals appreciate you so, so much. Sometimes it breaks my heart to see all the animals that need homes. I think you should definitely get another dog if/when you''re ready. There are so many great pets that need homes ! I wish I could save them all!

About a thousand years later, I'm going to reply! We need to spend more time in our Who's Who threads! You know? I always tend to forget about them...lol get so caught up in everything else on PS.

I used to have a lot of animals myself. 2 dogs, 2 rabbits, 2 teeny tiny frogs, a tankload of fish....but now I'm down to 0 for the time being. But my little doggie and me were the closest. The other dog I had always wanted to stay outside and wasn't as friendly. So we didn't spend a whole lot of time together. She was a snappy thing too. Bit me once when I was petting her while she was eating. To which my Mom yelled at me for petting a dog while eating. My little doggie however never minded. I'd stroke her, lightly tug on her cute little ears, and she would just much away..lol

That's not to say I didn't love my other dog because I did. We just weren't as close. She had gotten cancer and we had to put her to sleep. It was hard on us then and my little doggie was probably 3 when the other one was gone...

As for the rabbits, I used to dress them up in Pound Puppy clothes...haha that is so funny when I think about it. One of them got away and the other one we set free after so long....

And you know what happened to my little frogs? We had algae (sp?) eater things in the tank and they ate all the fish and my 2 little frogs. Those SOB's

I was so mad! So we flushed those algae eaters down the toilet
