I would say Charlize Theron, an award winning actress, smart, beautiful, tall !
The movie would play out similar to ''The Notebook''
I loved her in Head in the Clouds, but I still look at her and can''t get over the shock of her look in Monster. She''s a great actress!

Hmmm...I''m kind of limited in Hollywood.

Margaret Cho?
33.gif
I hear ya, TGal.

I''ll take Lucy Liu. She''s hot!!

Maybe Laura Prepon (when she was a redhead) or Claire Danes, in terms of (very) general appearance and demeanor. I've never been told I look like anyone in particular, but I'm a tall, quiet, pale, strawberry blonde, so I guess they're pretty close.

ETA: Oh! Or Cate Blanchett. LOVE. HER.

Salma Hayek (minus the accent). Even though I look nothing like her, and she''s much shorter than me, and older than me, I just think she''s an amazing actress...and she''s got the Latina flavor that my actress would definitely need to capture me and my life
9.gif

Plus she''s hot!

Ditto! (except on the much older than me part)

Or, America Ferrera.

BTW- Great book, Monnie! I''m finally going to start NAKED this weekend (i''ve owned it for like 5 years- sheesh)
I just picked up three of his from the library based on a friend''s recommendation--Barrel Heavy, Corduroy/Denim, and Me Talk Pretty--I can''t wait to get to Engulfed in Flames when it gets back to the library!

what? - she''d portray you as having terminal dementia and dying as an old lady??

i dont know the movie well, and i guess you know yourself better than others beau, but gees! that''s harsh! and i know theron can do ugly - we all saw Monster! but i dont know that she could do old! Bea Arthur could have done old, tall and smart - but she died earlier this week, so she''s out. and she was kinda mannish looking to boot...

who WAS the lady who played the female lead in ''the notebook''?? why not just have her??

sorry - just looked it up - Gena Rowlands. she''s a GREAT actress! just not how i pictured you...

i want whoopi goldberg to play me - earthy and funny. love her!

whitby--I''m not Beau, but I took her post to mean that the movie would play out as the lifelong love story in The Notebook, not the terminal dementia part. After all, it really is a story about devoted love, not dementia.

Thank you Haven..that is exactly what I was referring to! One of the greatest love stories, and when I watched it, I felt as though it was my life unfolding!!
I think I have a few more things in common with Charlize than I do Bea Arthur (I do have a similar sense of humour) but Charlize is more my age !

I could settle for her..she''s kinda cute, and a great actress, but she''s no Charlize Theron!!

Rachel McAdams (when she''s a brunette)
30.gif

I would say Meg Ryan. Her characters always seem to be a bit wacky and thats how I describe myself!

Bonnie Hunt for me (does anyone else watch her talk show?) without her glasses ... She's a few years older than I am and a bit taller, but we have the same sense of humor and both come from a family of 7 kids...her mom could play my mom too...they even have the same personality! It is eerie!

her mom is a riot!

Either Scarlett Johansson or Amy Adams.

WOW those are two very different actresses, but I honestly see a lot of myself in both of them, in different ways (esp. Scarlett in Match Point, though sans her homewrecker vibe

).

My very favorite is Kate Winslet, but she is/would be too old to play me, and my life hasn't been dramatic enough to give her worthy material to work with!

Skippy, I swear her mom and my mom are sisters, SO funny...my mom has the same sense of humor and wisdom/insight... My mom goes to Florida for the winter, so we talk on the phone a lot and sometimes when we''re talking, I can picture Bonnie''s mom, with her eyes closed!!! My mom did that too! So funny.

I would totally have her play me!!! She''ll be brunette for "The Time Traveler''s Wife" and I can''t wait and it''d be amazing to have her play Clare AND me.

That settles it. Rachel McAdams.

For me will be Jennifer Lopez!! I think would be a comedy, like Monster in Law

ah! got it. thanks for clarifying.

i was very touched by that movie - and cried through most of it, too! it had one of those great romantic ''bitter-sweet'' endings, tho perhaps a tad over-sentimentalized. i know i got to the end, blew my nose, then decided to go clean something, just to restore a sense of balance!

beau, i cant even imagine someone whose life unfolded in the same way as that movie! seriously - i dont know whether that''s incredible or unbearable! which war were you and your future husband separated during? my in-laws were separated during Vietnam, but they were married beforehand, and my MIL had 5 children, so not much in common there. and she doesn''t look like charlize theron OR gena rowlands, being a brunette an'' all my FIL was a very good looking officer, tho, so there was that i guess...

anyway, i''m sorry you''ve known so much pain but at least you now have a beautiful home. :) i will look forward to seeing ''Beau, The Movie''

actually - wasn''t there a Beau in Gone With The Wind? i think it was a man tho. kinda brings us back to bea arthur, doesnt it! ( OH! OH! i know why i thought of bea arthur! d''oh! bea - beau - bea - beau! d''oh! sorry - it was just an optical freudian thingy. scrub all bea arthur references)

i still wanna be whoopi :D

I thought you just said you "didn`t know the movie well" ??

I think you're missing the BIG picture..lol

^^ I took your comparison about that literally, as well.

I mean, there have been lots of movies that sort of follow a vaguely similar life story to mine, but I wouldn''t say that my life unfolded like them. So I assumed when you said that that it was an almost parallel story!

I think you`re missing the BIG picture..lol

hi beau :)

no, i dont know it well. i watch movies ALL the time - and it was one of those ones that kind of got lost in the backwash a bit - i thought it was a pretty good weepy, altho (just looked it up) it only got 52% on Rotten Tomatoes. i know it was directed by nick cassavetes, tho for some reason i keep thinking it was directed by ang lee... i have a feeling ang lee directed the movie of one of the books written by the same writer; nicholas sparks. i prefer the books to the movies as they''re less sentimentalized, but find them rather heavy going as they''re quite angst filled and intense. i prefer my novels trashy and brief! (well, maybe not, but let''s pretend i do)

before i married, i dated a guy who went on to be a movie director and now heads up a rather famous film house in europe. he''s a judge for various film competitions too, such as Sundance and so on. and i have a number of friends in LA who are in the movie industry. consequently, i am very interested in movies -tho i still would have been, i believe, even without that external help; i''ve always appreciated great story telling and am a writer, myself.

for me, knowing a movie well means i 1) own it b) love it c) have seen it at least 3 or 4 times. so no, i dont know ''the notebook'' well, but its ending certainly made an impression, and i think only an insensitive clod could fail to appreciate that ending! i DO remember the war, the separation, the dementia (lots of that!) and the death scene - and the basic premise of retelling a life story over and over.

i was left with one question at the end, tho - do you think her husband killed himself or that he died of a broken heart when she died? the movie didn''t address that. one cannot ''give up one''s spirit'' simply for the asking, so i''m guessing he killed himself. then of course, i wondered how. it was very glossed over in the film....

Jenna Jameson.

some crazy lady, that would be the only requirement

Kristen Bell. People tell me I look like her alllll the time.

Although I don''t bear any resemblance to her at all, I think Meryl Streep could do a fine job.
