Wedding Who pays for the wedding announcements?

So we don''t really have any we want to send out but my FI''s mom, my aunt and my step-mom do want to send some out. They''re requesting probably 20 each so say 60 announcements. My wedding invitation maker can do it but it''s about 3 bucks apiece. We can do a photo one from wedding paper divas but we''d have to order about 75.. with a custom color its like 156 bucks pre tax! That''s a lot! We''ve already sailed way over budget as is.

Is it fair to ask them to pay for them or should we just pay for them. We tried to get them to contribute to their stay at the house we rented and they got po''ed and went to a hotel. It worked out better for us that way luckily since our bridal party is now staying with us and paying so its a huge help.

I just see it as an extra expense, one of the many they tack on!

I would advise explaining it to them: "We''d love to send out announcements, but unfortunately our budget won''t allow it and it is not a priority for us. We''d be happy to order some for you to send out. The cost would be $xx."

This might be too casual for them...but check out using a digital photo and vistaprint or one of those photo baby announcement websites. They would be much cheaper, pennies each on vistaprint, and you could get the job done.
Just a thought.
