Who met their other half online?

I resisted it for a long time and then when my roommate at the time said she was going to do it, I thought, why not? I''ll give it a shot too. I met three people before meeting the guy who would become my husband 5 years later. I was only on one site for a few months. I know online dating has gotten a better reputation over the years, but I still hesitate telling people in real life. A lot of the time I just say that we met at a coffee shop (which isn''t really a lie -- we did meet in person at a coffee shop.). My roommate ended up meeting her husband on the same site, and they''re about to have their first baby!

RaiKai -- I agree with you on the "online dating" vs. "online meeting" thing. My husband and I exchanged e-mail addresses soon after meeting on the site, and then we didn''t use the site anymore.

My husband and I met on Yahoo Personals, lol. I met a lot of weirdos before I met him, though...

I met mine on myspace of all places!!!!

Been together almost 5 years and married for 1 1/2. :)

Some of my friends and acquaintances met their other halves via Internet dating sites. I believe that the sides have to be reputable, though.
The very few advises I am giving to girls who are trying I-net dating - do not meet in a restaurant, do not assume he has to pay for dinner, and you are not obliged to bring him into your apartment. One young lady who I knew got...unwell due to many sleepless nights. She used to think that "I-net dating is OK - as long as you do not have to pay for the dinner". Nothing horrible happened to her, but she just went slightly off...

Here's a sample. I no longer pay these sites anything, hehe. This is the 50-mile radius, too.

I met mine through work but before being with my current SO, I started dating a guy that I met online. It didn''t work out but we''re still extremely close friends and I''m so glad that I met him.

Or ... he''s a peeping tom with a pool *fetish* ... or he''s got a pool-cleaning business ... or ... he''s *been to* a pool once with someone who owns a camera.

But to the original question: I did Match.com for a while. I met a) my husband and b) a guy who semi-stalked me for five years. Not in that order.

Like anywhere really, you just can''t ever quite tell who is full up of the crazy for sure. One thing I learned was to avoid anyone with very long, super detailed, rambling profiles. Anyone who thinks they can tell everything about themselves and everything about who they want in twelve paragraphs of single spaced type is most probably in the Crazy category.

Now what exactly do they mean by "a three-day free trial"?

Oh, but he looks like he''s facing the firing squad, or cringing, though, doesn''t he?

And y''all thought I was making this stuff up.

I met husband through Match.com.

I was on for around a month, it was a full time job... met tons of super nice fantastic people, but DH was in the mix and it was just meant to be.

Got together and married in a few months. For my age group, we were late forties.... it was perfect, knew what we wanted. We are going on eight years together and every one gets better.

I met my husband online.

I think if you are out of school it is really the only way to meet people these days!

This is hilarious!

We were "Friendsters". I was new to Friendster and didn''t really understand what it was all about, so I accepted his friend request (after a few days of figuring it all out, I only added actual friends). He added me on my first day of joining - but we never corresponded.

Another friendster of mine, Pam, asked about him. I said I had never really talked to him but he seemed cool. She wanted me to suggest a match between the two of them so I did, though I don''t think they ever went out.

Then myspace came along, and we all migrated over there. I was more lax about adding people I didn''t actually know on myspace. Then one day I decided to delete everyone I didn''t actually know. I gave everyone the "once over". When I got to him, I almost deleted him but decided against it because he added me on my first day of Friendster.

I then always posted about cool shows I was going to attend (a lot of my friends are musicians). He showed up at one. I recognized him, and sort of felt obligated to hang out with him. He asked me to dinner and I thought "what the hay". I married him 2.4 years later.

I wouldn''t say that I was an internet dater - but I have met a lot of friends that way.

The Friendster days were crazy - I would go out and every time I would get recognized by people who weren''t on my Friends List. I don''t think there were privacy settings back in 2003.

I forgot to mention - Pam asked me if there was anyone on her friends list that I would like for her to suggest a match for me. I perused and said, "um, Sheldon looks interesting." So she suggested a match.

However, he never checked his messages and was an absentee Friendster.

A few months later, I was at the Roxy for a show (my friend played bass for a famous act). We were hanging out after the show upstairs at "On The Rocks". Because I was part of the "entourage", paparazzi were all over the place (outside - they weren''t allowed into the private party). When I was leaving, I was followed by about 5 photographers. They were following me to my car and as I was walking on Sunset, I happened to run into Sheldon on the street. I called him by name, he stopped, I mentioned the Friendster thing (he had no idea) but rescued me from the paparazzi.

We started dating. He was the one I was seeing (though casually) when I met my husband. Sheldon was great, but I was not really interested in getting serious with a touring rockstar.

We met online - but not through a dating website. We met in an AOL chat room when we were both in high school. We started really dating in college and got engaged.
This is nearly identical to how I met DH. It was 11 years ago this month. I am so lucky that we accidentally bumped into each other in a chat room :)
