I''d go for the diamonds (I don''t wear a watch). What a nice offer either way.

Jewelry set. I am not much of a watch person.

Since they asked your FI, I think he could get back to them and say "She would love some jewelry - I know that such and such designer/vendor is one of her favourites".

I''d go for the set too. I''m not into ULTRA expensive watches. I''d especially go for th set if you''re talking solitaires.. I''m pretty sure if they''re going to spend that kind of money they will be good quality.

Have you decided which you''re going to get?

Wll, I hate watches so I''d go for the bling................

I''d rather pick my own diamonds too. So I''d go for a nice Cartier Watch. They don''t go out of style and they last forever. Plus you can be sure of the quality.

diamonds please!!

Hmmm tough choice. I agree it''d be unfortunate if the diamonds weren''t of great quality, but for me, I''ve never been one to spend a lot on a watch. While I wear a watch almost every day, I''ve found that watches under $100 seem to do the same job as those over $1000... even if you have to replace the cheaper ones more often. Idk my watch gets pretty banged up so I don''t think I''ll ever really splurge on one.

I''d get the jewelry. It''d be great to wear at your wedding and it''s a much longer lasting gift to commemorate your marriage. Definitely things you could pass down. Even if the diamonds are not perfect, like you said it''s the thought that counts and I think you''d love them regardless.

Have you decided which you're going to get?
We had a talk yesterday and I think the FI knows that I'd

a watch, and have some worries about the jewelry set. But ultimately I told him that I really want it to be his parents' choice, since it is a super generous gift, and I will obviously be totally happy either way. I'm not sure when it would be coming, but I'll be sure to post pics once I get it!

jewelry set, hands down, but I'd recommend a great vendor I know called (fill in the blank with BGD, WF, GOG:-)!

A watch would be safer I guess, I just don't really like to wear watches.,. Can't wait to see what you get. That's a lovely wedding gift!

Im having a hard time deciding for you!

....I would pick the diamonds if they are quality, but a Rolex or Cartier is a life time keeper...keep in mind though that the watch has up- keep(an automatic needs to be cleaned and serviced every 5-7 years and it is expensive...Rolex charges $500 for a cleaning and Cartier will be more to clean an automatic movement watch)i would choose an automatic movement watch(I wouldn''t spend thousands of dollars on a quartz movement watch!)GOOD LUCK !

O! Can you recommend something for FI? Nothing too crazy, I was thinking a s/s Datejust, kinda like the starter Rolex

It''s so classic and timeless..I have one given by my maternal grandfather more than 30 years ago, and I just love it (although it definitely needs a full cleaning and servicing). Something along those lines? FI isn''t really a watch or any kind of adornment type of guy, so I think we need to ease him in

And are Rolex''s really that terrible for keeping time?

You don''t buy a rolex to keep time. I will say this, rolex watches are great investment pieces and, tend to hold their value more than most consumer watches.

I had a rolex yahtmaster. it was gorgeous. Alas, not the watch for me because its not exactly a watch you want to roll up in at times. It was also my only watch. (I don''t believe in having more than one)

So I sold it off. Basically I got back everything sans 300 bucks so not bad for having it for 6 years. I bought an Oris which I like better but will not hold value like Rolex tends to. I wear it more though which makes me happier.

I barely turn my cell phone on and would rather look at my watch honestly so if someone BOUGHT me a watch like a JLC or Glashutte, I''d be all for it.

I''d rather buy my own jewelery since I''m picky that way. but if you don''t care about watches, then get jewelery.

I just wanted to say thank you again, everyone, for your thoughts!

I LOVE a good watch. Much easier to be sure of the quality and happy with what you end up with!

I have own/sold /worn Rolex and Omega watches since 1988 and never had a problem with either keeping time.I think an all stainless date just on and oyster rather then jubilee bracelet would be a great wedding/engagement gift. Also a Rolex sub would be a great choice!

I would chose the watch.
