Okay so I like both these glasses for different reasons.

The purple glasses are just gorgeous in color and quality but modern looking and would probably only match my hair (haha). My wedding is marie antoinette / silver teapots / gold rimmed dishes / light pinks and blues / magentas etc. The champagne saucers are very vintage looking to me since flutes seem to be used more than saucers these days and the shape and style would probably go with my theme. I love the antique feel wth that shape.

But toasting is only a small part of the wedding and the purple ones would really stand out and may be pretty cool in that regard but then again the classic saucer may go better.

Which do all of you prefer and if you feel like sharing, why? Thanks for the help!

I just couldn''t vote because I think both sound great in different ways, and I couldn''t tell which way you were leaning (which is how I usually decide how to vote in polls, not my own preference).

I think if I were choosing for my own wedding, I''d choose the saucers, because I too love that antiquey charm that they have... but which one are YOU leaning toward? What about your FI (if he cares

I know mine would just come back with "Well, what do YOU like best?" ha!).

I picked the flutes only because they''re purple, and your personality says ''purple'' to me! (Okay, violet sounds better than purple)

Originally I was ALL about the purples ons, like had to have them omg. But then I thought about it a bit more and I was like, what else would I use there for anywyas? Not that I"d use the champagne saucers that much more either but they are more generic in terms of being clear glass. Then I was torn between the tall flute look and a cute short saucer look. So I''m totally not sure!!

I''ll ask my FI but he may just say ''whatever'' hehe.

I'm gonna shoot myself. I've lost this post twice. OKAY here are the highlights.

the purple ones are too modern for me, considering the whole Marie Antionette of it all and that cake design of yours. The saucers are more my taste... but that shape encourages the champagne to go flat and warm so I'm not a fan.

Here's what I'd get. Disclaimer-- I normally HATE colored crystal AND cut crystal. So color me shocked when I found the Varga Art Crystal line and fell head over heels in love. My personal favorites are the "Springtime" pattern (the colored versions-- lots of colors available) and the "Simplicity" (also the colored versions-- lots of colors available).

But for your wedding with its opulent theme I'm loving these: I love the Amber color and the Raspberry color... okay so I love all the colors.

Renaisance Pattern : http://www.graciousstyle.com/webstore/control/category/~category_id=RENAISSANCE-COLOR-ST/~pcategory=DINNERWARE-STEMWARE and this link will show you the shape of the Renaisance Flutes : http://www.porcelaingalleryinc.net/pages/stemware/varga/varga_renaissance.html

Monogram Pattern: http://www.graciousstyle.com/webstore/control/category/~category_id=VARGA-MONOGRAM-GREEN/~pcategory=DINNERWARE-STEMWARE this link shows the flute: http://www.porcelaingalleryinc.net/pages/stemware/varga/varga_monogram.html

Or, the most ornate of them all... and the one that feels the most "Marie Antoinette" for me... the PARIS pattern:

Gypsy that glassware is AMAZING! WOW! My eyes were bugging out looking at colors, I love it! The only hitch is it's SUPER pricey! I don't think we can afford to buy that although I would love to. It would be perfect!

I was going to register for the other stuff and hope that someone bought it. I actually went to Macy's today and we'd decided we'd just go simple with the vera wang saucers, so I tacked it on to my registry.

I had no idea that saucers make the champagne go warm and flat! Why is that?? Is that why that shape isn't very popular anymore?

ETA: I found this blog post, I guess saucers are for 'expensive' champagne to give it more room to breathe?

Spreads it out in the glass and the exit surface area is larger so it losses its temperature and carbonation faster that way. Plus the glasses encourage you to wrap your hands on the goblet part instead of the stem... which is a no-no as it just warms up the stuff faster. But they LOOK lovely. What about the Tiffany ones? Those are only 90 a pop.

The tifanny ones are lovely too but still pricey, I''d have to register for them. I guess the waterford were like 156.00 but they were so colorful! Sigh.. this is a tough one!

You''re right about holding the goblet part. That''s also why that article said don''t get those hollow stem glasses either. I guess it''s worse if you have ''sparkiling wine'' vs champagne. I was going to toast with ''Sofia'' which I guess technically is a sparkling wine.

I should look up or start a sparkling wine/champagne thread....
