Which recipes do you still make? What would you never even dream of making?

I still make my grandma''s cookies, my mom''s apple crisp and my mom''s venison.

I will NEVER make meatloaf, meatballs, or meat pie.

Aw, I like this.

I still make my grandma''s baked ziti. I hope one day to be able to make her matzoh ball soup and I''ve tried to make her applesauce, but its never as good. I also make my mom''s roast potatoes and will one day attempt her brisket and chicken with rice.

I would never make my grandma''s chopped liver or gefilte fish. *shiver*

My mother wasn't a very a good cook and husband is.

A recipe that came from my grandmother that I love is her cornbread. Mmmmm. It's only 11:44 and now I am starving thinking about that cornbread.

Does ps have a recipe section? If not, that would be cool. We could all swap the best of 'em.

radiant~ there is a "Healthy" recipe section, and there have been the cupcake, cookie, etc threads. I''ve never seen a "Best of PS Recipe Collection". It would be cool! Like our own community cookbook.

I make mom''s goulash and tuna casserole. I have a terrible time w/our oven trying to make her meatloaf, so if I''m craving it, I ask her to make it. I make mom''s green bean casserole. I can''t make her pork cutlets and red gravy to save my life, so that''s another one I have her make.

Oooh, goulash! I used to live in Budapest and love goulash. Do you have a recipe for it, Packrat?

I should add turkey meatloaf and my grandma''s hamburgers to my list. Its the same recipe, which makes for great hamburgers!

What I still make:

Grandma''s apple pie
Chocolate chip cookies
apple crisp
apple sauce
cinnamon rolls
potato salad

Will never ever make:

Mom''s meat surprise (kind of like a meatloaf)
Mom''s tuna casserole with broccoli & potato chips
sauerkraut (grandparents make it and can it)
spaghetti pizza
chicken & broccoli casserole with cream of mushroom soup

Cereal over milk.

But I''ve learned a few things since then...

HA!

Midnight cake. Best chocolate cake--EVER!

cheers--Sharon

My mom's pepper steak (haven't had that one in a long time, methinks it's overdue), her parmigiano salmon and my great aunt's cake.

My mom made great stuff growing up, the only thing I didn't like that she made frequently was stroganoff.

This isnt exactly a complex recipe but the other day I made "egg in the hole" for the first time in a while which my mom used to make all the time when I was little.

Pretty simple:

Take a piece of bread and lightly butter both sides. Use a small juice glass (or a knife if you don''t have a glass of appropriate size) and press a hole in the middle of the bread hard enough that you can take the bread in the middle out. Then put the outside piece of bread in a skilllet and break an egg into the center. After the bottom has cooked flip the whole thing over creating an over easy like egg in the center.

Serve and enjoy. :-)

Sure-it''s called the Easy Peasy Fastest Meal Ever haha. Brown hamburger (sometimes I add onion and green pepper when it''s browning), make some noodles..sometimes I like the elbows, sometimes the little shells or the twirly wavy ones, add a can or 2 (depending on how much burger/noodles you have) Campbells tomato soup (not juice). Mix it all together and that''s it. It''s the easiest thing ever!

My mom''s challah recipe.
YUM!

Packrat, that does sound easy. Thanks!

Haven, is it one of those four hour wait recipes? I applaud you

I make my mom''s baked ziti often. It''s nothing fancy -- jarred sauce, etc., but it''s sooooo yummy.

Oh man. My dad cooked growing up, so it''s mostly my grandmothers'' stuff that I make, but here''s a sorta list:
Everlasting cole slaw (the kind with vinegar, sugar, and celery salt)
Cucumbers and onions (same dressing as above)
Shepherd''s pie
I''ve made my mom''s meatloaf for DH..it''s pretty darned good
Pizza bread (ohhh yum - this is dad creation)
Grandma''s oatmeal cookies
Peanut butter Special K cookies (my favorite cookie ever - think rice krispie treat only with peanut butter carmel-y stuff instead of marshmallow and special k instead of rice krispies)
Chocolate pie (it''s like a brownie filling..so yum)

The only thing I don''t make is stir fry. Ohhh ick. In my house growing up, stir fry was code for "we need to go to the store and just have frozen veggies left in the freezer."

Porcupine meatballs! Mmm, they are delicious! I had to start making them because my mom wouldn''t make them for anymore. Something about how I get sick after I eat them, everytime. They''re so tasty though! I haven''t gotten sick after making them myself though, so I''m happy to be able to eat them again.
Mac and cheese. I''m not sure where she got the recipe from, but it''s how I prefer to eat it. My aunt makes hers differently and I adore the way me and my mom make it.
I would never dream of making her fried rice. Well I would, but we don''t have a wok and I guess I''m just not ambitious enough to try it. I do love it though!
Oh breakfast! She makes the best bacon, grits and eggs breakfast! I love it! I can make it at home, but it tastes sooo good when she makes it.

I sometimes make my mom''s pineapple upside down cake, YUMM!!! But gotta have it with whipped cream!

My mom made GREAT mac and cheese too, she baked it, with a bread crumb topping and served it with stewed tomatoes, SO good! And she makes an out of this world beef stew, with burgundy wine, to die for! She made lots of yummy stuff...but I have a picky DH, so I don''t make a lot of her dinners...ugh.

But I cook like my mom, we don''t typically use recipes...we create ''every day'' meals with whatever is in the house...and it (usually) turns out great!

For special meals, I''ll sometimes use a recipe, but even then I usually improvise!

The only thing that I really make from when I was growing up was my Mom''s fried potatoes...I still cant make them like hers

My grandma''s sour cream sugar cookies and her dinner rolls. My mom''s chocolate chip cookies and cheeseburger logs (mini meatloaves). My cocoa brownies recipe - it''s good and fattening.

peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
