Their kids or their dogs?

Re: Which are people more sensitive about?

I have neither but I hope it's their kids.

The passion seen in correct-parenting threads seems to pale when compared to the passion and even condescending seen in correct dog-owning threads.

Maybe because we feel we have more control over dogs than kids so dog misbehavior is more of a direct reflection on the human than kid misbehavior.

i say the kid, but only because you can't really choose your kid. if you get a bad one, you're kinda stuck. ;))

hmm.. but then again if the dog is my choice and it's a bad dog, then it reflects badly on my judgement.

perplexing...

So again, are people more sensitive about how they raise their kids or their dogs?
I think dogs.

You need to check out a few additional parenting boards, my friend. Training methods and brands of kibble vs. breastfeeding or formula feeding, circumcision, vaccination, CIO, stay at home or work?, public or private schooling...and I haven't even scratched the surface.

The two aren't comparable. And this is coming from someone with both a dog AND a child. ;))

Thanks E B.

I'm only have experience at this and two other fora, and base my dog guess on those.

I don't think it's either. I think it's dog owners who don't have children - I think they're the most sensitive. There are all kinds of things you can say to a dog owner that doesn't have children to set them off.

I was only trying to express my opinion that they say the loss of a child is the hardest loss to grieve. That's why I chose kids instead of dogs but of course I'm only guessing.

Agreed to a point. If I told somebody that I was petless (I'm not) they wouldn't blink an eye. When I tell people that I'm never having a baby and I made that a permanent decision they act as if I just slapped them in the face and took away their fertility. I love the fact that my little dog is a Velcro brat that doesn't love anybody but me. Why share the wealth :cheeky:

eta: I really can't remember where I was going with that. Brain has turned to mush from the day....

The death of a child is one of the most profound losses a person can experience. I expect to outlive my dog. He is very precious to me and I don't even want to think about how painful that will be. If my daughter died before me, it would take the life out of me. I don't know how I would survive it.

Frankly, I find this topic disingenuous. Why start a topic like this. What is to be gained.

Yes, agreed.

This was my thought. Or, actually, dog owners until they have kids. This comes from a woman with dogs and no kids.

**edited by moderator. Enough. Please.**

Cats  but only because I don't have kids.

i stay out of threads when i dont like the topics. imo, there are MUCH worse threads on these forums. ppl whining and complaing about bfs who wont propose when he clearly has no interest to marry, or whining and complaing about envelopes. I dont see anyone complaining about those re-occuring threads.

kenny asked whether people are more likely to be sensitive about, and that covers a very broad range. It could be about potty training or diet, or a bunch of other stuff. he didn't ask whether you'd rather lose a child or a dog.

Broad range can make it worse. Everyone creates their own reality, so to speak, so when we read questions like these, our interpretation is based on what experiences we've encountered in our own lives and the lives of ones around us and our answers reflect so.

I was responding to Danny, not Kenny. You should have seen that in my post.

this is what i was referring to. If nobody likes the topic, it'll die on its own, right?

I was quite interested to see how people would respond, because people can be quite sensitive about both. When I realized that i get defensive about my flaws, it was quite an eye opener because i didn't think i was so sensitive. Thought it might be fun because ppl react to different things, and this could be a self-realization type thread.

Then i come back an hour later and it turns into another one of these threads.

Then it's not really the OP's topic, but the reader's interpretation, that is at fault.

i think i'd be more annoyed if the topic said: Are people more sensitive about a dog's diet or a child's diet?

then immediately create: are people more sensitive about a dog's teeth or a child's teeth?

and on and on... one topic, keep it together! People can discuss... or not. I dont open half the threads because i already know they will irritate me. but i dont tell people they need to stop posting.

Thread closed. Again, please give everyone a break. If you feel you cannot come on PS without bringing up past incidents, please take a break from the forums.
