We are going to make some purchases and I am wondering if we are better off going on Black Friday or doing it online on Cyber Monday.

What has your experience been? I am thinking that online may be better because there is less overhead, but then again the retail stores may be better to get people to come in.

I think that some of the best deals really are on Friday, but sometimes what you want may last all weekend. You can find out what the sales are going to be ahead of time so that you can figure what your best bet it. If you Google "black friday" some great sites will come up telling you what the sales are for stores.

All of the sites I shop from have sales for the entire week following Black Friday. If you know exactly what you want? I''d shop on line. You couldn''t pay me to be in the stores on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

RQ, I work with some electronics retailers so I can answer to this some extent.

Some BF deals are hot and will only run for a limited amount of time. Also, stock is an issue for B&M. Hunt the circulars and see if there is something you really really want and be in line to get it.

If you are just generally shopping, online is the place to be. Many online stores will run their specials friday-monday. Some specials will be for Cyber Monday only.

Although many stores definitely will hound vendors for the hottest promos on BF, it''s not unusual to see better deals into December.

If there is an item for a specific vendor, it sometimes pays to know when their fiscal year ends. Many of them end with the calendar year, so you will see them pulling out all the stops to move product the last two weeks of December IF it looks like they may fall short. Other companies have a March 31 fiscal end date, and you''ll see more aggressive offers then.

Black Friday usually has limited 'specials' - - you know - - merchandise they either stockpiled so they could way underbid the other guy (Walmart vs. anyone), or they marked it way up to mark it way down to fool you, or there are a 'limited number of items available' for that stupendously low price, or early (pre-dawn) shoppers get X% off that others don't, etc., et., etc.

Unless you like mayhem, or playing tug of war over the last (insert this year's must have here) item of its kind, there's not much point to Black Friday. I'm not so sure, given the recent deadly tramplings all in the name of deep discounts, that Black Friday refers to the merchandisers' bottom line.

Can you tell that I skip it?

ohmigawd did someone say BLACK FRIDAY???

*jumps all over the place* only 10 more days! only 10 more dayyyyys!

I LOVE BLACK FRIDAY. I think about it all year. ;)

It amazes me though, how MEAN people get when shopping. Thankfully I''ve only been pushed a few times. I am NOT like that and for me to go out in a large crowd really takes effort.

I''m soooooo ''cited!

I am not after the "big item" of the season. I am buying a TV and want the best deal out there. I have never been out on BF before so I have no idea what I am getting into. I think it might be a little fun with all the chaos. That said I am not the type to camp out or get up at an insane hour to shop. Most things I am ok with buying during a regular sale, but TVs are freaking expensive and I will angry with myself if I don''t get it for the least amount possible.

I have got some awesome deals online T''giving night.

My DD and I ventured out on BF last year. I doubt if we do that again, what a freaking zoo !!

I have to say I did about 90% of my Christmas shopping online. I''m lucky my kids just tell me what they want and I order.
I''m almost done -whew!

For electronics, I usually track techbargains.
