Slovenia in 2011; probably revisit Spain/Portugal/Italy in 2012.

I'm going to Spain (Malaga) at the end of the month with some friends. DH and I are hoping to go to Argentina next year to visit my uncle. We normally try and get in a couple of European city breaks in the winter as there are some great deals there and it only takes an hour or two for us to get to most places.

A friend of mine told me last night that he is planning on visiting paris for a month in October and renting an apartment... I may go out there for a week and stay with him if I can make it happen with my work schedule :appl: . This would be a great (and affordable) way to see Paris. Not only that, he has visited several times and can show me around.

***Fingers crossed**

That sounds awesome!! free accom in Europe is very valuable, as is a tour guide =)

We are planning to visit Rajasthan followed by Kerala in November. In Kerala, we'll be doing staying in a houseboat, sailing in the backwaters and eating tons of seafood!

My mom and I are leaving for a week in New York on the 17th and then the week after we are flying over to Amsterdam for about a week. We're so excited for Amsterdam as neither of us have been there before. I'm a little nervous though because I speak NO Dutch whatsoever.

Don't worry, most people speak English in Holland, especially if you are sticking to major cities like Amsterdam or Utrecht.
I remember when we were there our guide told us that all the TV programs are in Dutch with English subtitles (or English with Dutch subtitles can't remember which) anyway, everyone was exposed to Engish so most people speak some. My mum is Dutch and all of her side of the family speak fluent English, are older and don't live near the major cities. Have a wonderful time, i am sure you will enjoy it. :))

OP, if you are on a budget and/or time constraints have a look into a tour (if you are planning on Europe) I did one about 5 years ago and everything was pre paid, all we needed money for was drinks, shopping, lunch and some dinners that weren't provided. It was definately a great way to get a taste of each counrty on a budget. We went from England to France, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Italy, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Austria, Germany, Holland and Belgium all in 30 days. It was crazy, but i got a taste for every where and i know exactly which countries i will be heading back to one day. Also, we didn't have to worry about anything except to be up on time for the bus in the morning our tour guide took care of everything. I think its a great way for a first timer to get out and see some foreign countries.

AFM, there are no big holidays are in sight for us as we need to take the kids on a family holiday so will probably end up in Bali or on the Gold Coast (Australaias idea to theme parks) although New Zealand and the US are my next two picks for big holidays.

ETA: I just saw your post about Paris with your friend.. awesome!!! Do it if you can!! Paris is one of my most favourite places in the world.

Ok, after reading everyones responses I am off to see where our frequent flyer points will get us. :naughty:

NYC in October, and possibly Napa in early November.

I lived in London for almost a year about a decade ago, and spent all of my free time traveling around the UK and northern Europe. DH and I did a huge portion of Italy in 2008, and traveled the French Riviera + Paris in April/May of this year.

One thing I learned about when planning both vacations - www.vrbo.com - we had a spectacular flat in Paris one block from the Louvre with a closet kitchen and 2 rooms and bathrooms for under 200 EU a night; less than half what a 5 star hotel would have cost us. There are even better deals to be had with some negotiating and scouring of the internet.

I'm in the middle of a Great Britain trip (London, rural England, Wales--which is where I am right now--and Scotland) and would like to come back to Europe for our next trip if we can fit in one more before having kids. When we first started dating we went to the Caribbean for vacation because it was quick and fairly cheap. We've also taken other beach vacation trips in Hawaii, but our trips to Europe have always been my favorite, so I think I'm just going to focus on what I know I love. After kids I doubt we can get over here to often, but I'm hoping we can.

Oooooo DiaDiva, Kerala! :appl: it's like my second home and I go there often, I took a group there a couple of years ago. November is a great time of the year to go. If you want any additional info on Kerala do ask me.
