Did you or will you stop using some method of birth control?

The reason I ask, is I see or hear of SOOO many couples who get engaged, and then some time between getting engaged and the date they are supposed to get married, they end up getting pregnant. It happens way to much to be a fluke thing. Its like you dated for 6 years and never got pregnant, but then you getting engaged and WHAM. Do you people prevent pregancy pre-marriage only when they are dating, but then assume engagement is close enough? Like when you get engaged (and even after you get married) will you just stop using any method of birth control and if it happens it happens? Or will you continue using BC methods until you are ready/trying to get pregnant?

I dont know, I guess it just doesnt make sense to me. It seems like a lot of people just dont use it anymore once they get engaged. I feel like I''ve waited/used BC for this long, might as well wait until after we''re married and we are ready to be pregnant before I stop using and "see what happens".

Man, if I got PG right now I''d NEVER fit into my dress!

No way I''m altering in any way. I''m on the pill, and have been our entire relationship except for a 5 months stint that resulted in acne beyond my wildest imagination.

Back on. Skin clear.

I will stay on until we want to make a baby.

FF and I (mostly him

) have decided that we will stop using his form of BC on our wedding night. I will stay on the pill until we are ready to start trying to actually get pregnant. But we will stay safe until the wedding night. No way I want to have to keep resizing my wedding dress because of a growing belly!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Definitely still on ye olde BC.

Heck no. It wasn''t the right time.

Absolutely not. Right now, BF and I are in the "not having children" camp. We''ve talked about it, and if we decide to have children, it won''t be until we''re 33-34 or so. We''ll be 28 when we marry, so a good 5-6 years after tying the knot.

Heck no. Then again, it won''t stop until one of us gets some kind of surgical BC method.

continuing to use it until i am on his insurance, and probably for a year at least after marriage.

Nope. I love my method. Even with the bad skin (which is upsetting me like no other) it's worth it. I've got about 4.75 years to go before I even think about stopping/changing, and about 9 more years til I think I'll be ready to handle kids. But I'm a planner, so I can't imagine just leaving that up to chance that way.

Nooooooooo!

I can''t imagine getting pregnant unplanned. Either it''s planned, or it doesn''t happen.

I''ve been on the pill for about a year and a half. When DH and I got engaged I stayed on it. Although the truth is we didn''t really do anything that could result in me getting pregnant anyway (we waited until our wedding night) and I was just on the pill for other health reasons.

But even now that we''re married I''m still staying on the pill because we just aren''t ready for kids yet - in a few years I''ll go off it when we decide we''re ready. Even now that we''re married and even though I''m on the pill I still worry constantly about accidentally getting pregnant right now!

This is us. After the wedding the pill is getting tossed...well unless I am supposed to get my period on my honeymoon. In that case I will adjust the pill in order to avoid it. I actually don''t know anyone IRL who was engaged and then got pregnant before the wedding.

No, but that didn''t stop my FSIL from telling me, when I purchased the dress about 10 months before the wedding, that I was foolish because, "Anything could happen - you could be pregnant by then."

I didn''t think it necessary to point out that I was pretty sure I could keep from getting pregnant if I really wanted to.

I haven''t heard of too many friends who tossed the pills once they got engaged but I have heard of more than a few who did toss the condoms. Since no BC is 100% effective it makes sense that accidents can happen if you are taking away one method from a double equation.

I am not knocking BC pills at all but most of my friends who got pregnant unexpectedly were pill users who forgot the occasional pill so I can''t help but wonder if the increase happens as a result of stressed out bride to be''s who forget to take their pills a few times. Could also be some extra loving going on too...personally, I think it''s a great way to relieve some of the stresses of planning

I am 29 and will be 30 when we get married. I have been on BC for 10 years now (woah!) and I think I will stop using it a month after the wedding. My GYN told me that it could take up to 3-6 months to get preggers after stopping BC, especailly since I have been on it for so long. I need to talk to my fiancee though before we really decided anything.

We''ve talked about it, since I''d like to get off hormonal BC sometime in the near future. When it came down to it, though, I couldn''t bring myself to ditch it quite yet. Now that it''s close enough to the wedding that my dress will still fit no matter what (love those corset backs!) I don''t think we''d be terribly upset if an "oops" happened but we''re certainly not trying for it.

Nopers, still on after we got engaged and will continue to stay on it until we decided it''s baby time. I''ve been on it since I was 16, with maybe 4 or 5 months off (I''m 24 now), and like elle, I majorly broke out when I was not on the pill.

I''m not on the pill (not a fan) but we are verrrrrrrrrry careful. No plans to ''see what happens'' until we are good and ready (and married

My DB and SIL stopped all BC, right before they got married, thinking it would take a long time for them to get pregnant. SIL got pregnant TWO WEEKS after the wedding!

Ha ha. NO WAY!
First of all, I am on it for medical reasons so I will continue to take the pill until we are ready for babies.
Second of all, to get preggo before marriage would pretty much make screeching red monkeys fly out of my moms eyes and attack bfs crotch in his sleep
29.gif
. (she told me in when I was in middle school that if a "boy" ever touched me in ANY way, she''d cut his hands off

)
We use two forms of protection and bf is STILL scared that it might accidentally happen so we''re SUPER careful.
After we''re married, we may stop using his form but I will remain on the trusty (knock on wood) pill.

Lilac: I LOVE that song! BF and my first date was to an Aerosmith concert 3 1/2 years ago.. "I don''t want to miss a thing" was the first song we danced to and was also our first kiss! So we consider it "our" song and every time any of my friends hear it on the radio, they feel the need to call me and let me know it''s on! lol. They are coming back to our area in Sept. So we made sure to by tickets to relive our first date!
Let me just say, you have good taste in music!

I''m actually not on BC. I was but it was horrible for me and condoms... well I''ll spare you but yeah we dont. I mean we try to not you know /blush...
ANYWAYS! yeah hehehehehehe

Jaylex - That''s *our* song too! DH and I have been together for almost 5 years now and a couple days after our first date I heard it on the radio and realized I finally really FELT and understood the feeling behind the lyrics. I played it for him and we decided we would make it "our" song. We play it every year on our anniversary and he put it on 2 cd''s he''s made for me over the years. We LOVE it! We danced to that song for our first dance at our wedding and those were some of the most magical and best moments of our wedding.

Ditto ck. Like I said, we are VERY careful. Our method isn't for everyone, but in this case, the very worst that could happen is, I get pregnant, and truthfully that wouldn't be the end of the world.

Yeah same here.
I had a scare once and I was nervous and SO actually looked happy. He was happy too when it was a false alarm but it gives me hope.
