Don''t think this has been posted recently, but I''ve also been away. What is your timeline for the reception?

i always wondered this too, i have no idea i figured usually the dj just have a general schedule they normally do and we would go by that?? Cake cutting will probably be after dinner and served to guests during speechs i think

Yeah see that''s our problem..the DJ wants to do it one way and the reception venue another.

So I am trying to figure out which way is more popular/better. So far I am thinking the venue''s way is a bit more attractive..but maybe someone will pipe in and help us both out?

No problem! Okay I am hoping I remember it correctly, but here''s what I remember:

Wedding
Photos that are left over while guests have a cocktail hour (with no actual cocktails though lol)
We make our entrance
First Dance
Dance w/ Dad
His dance w/ his Mom
Any other scheduled dances
Dinner
Cake cutting & Toasts
Rest of the dancing
End?

Lol.

So far I''ve surmised that the venue wants all of the food together (dinner then cake directly following); whereas, the DJ doesn''t want to even start until after dinner is over..and he wants to play a while then break up and have the cake cutting and toast, then more dancing. Does that make sense?

Actually the way the dj has it is the way I think we are going to have it. All the dances after dinner and cake...

5.15-6.15pm - cocktails and canapes on the beach

6.30pm reception starts - that''s all I have got. We are having a small wedding for less than 20 guests, so I don''t want to be too strict with timings. We plan to cut our cake and have our first dance on arrival, so we can eat drink and be merry. We will throw the speeches into there somewhere too.

This is not down to the minute yet, but it''s what I have so far

6:30-7:00 - Ceremony

7:00-7:30 - Receiving line & Cocktails

7:30-9:00 - Dinner & Toasts

9:00-9:30 - First Dance and Cake Cutting (not sure about order yet)

9:30-12:00 - Open dancing with cake and coffee available buffet style for those who want it.

Musically we will have a ceremony musician (probably harpist) from 6:15 til 7:30 or maybe 9 - if we can get a good price and they can play for 3 hours - if not we will play background music through dinner, then have a band or ipod for the dancing portion.

Ours is-
1.30 - Ceremony
3.00 - Pre-reception drinks and snacks
5.30 - sit down for dinner
7.30 - cutting the cake
8.00 - band arrives
11.00 - dj starts
2am - dj finishes and we all go back to resident''s bar in the hotel
4-5am - we eventually go to bed.

This is how our weddings are typically done over here. It''s a long day!

6:30-7:00 Ceremony
7:00-7:45 Pictures
8:00-10:00 Dinner, Dances, Cake Cutting, and Toasts
10:00-12:00 Party!!

I already told my coordinator that I want all the formalities to be done in the first two hours of the reception. We haven''t finalized an exact step-by-step procedure just yet.

4:00-4:30 - Ceremony
4:30-6:00 - Photos for us & bridal party (we aren''t seeing each other before the ceremony)and cocktail hour for guests.
6:00-6:30 - First Dance, Father/Daughter, Mother/Son (we want to get all photography done before dinner)
6:30-8:00 - Dinner
8:00-12:00 - Dancing

I don''t know if we''re going to do speeches or not. Neither the best man nor the MOH is good at speeches.

Haven''t gotten to that point yet but here''s what I''m thinking of:

6pm-7pm Ceremony
7pm-8pm Cocktail hour
8pm - BP Intros & cake cutting
8:10 - speeches
9pm - first dance & dance floor opens

No bouquet or garter toss
