I went into our local Lumber liquidators to price flooring. I gave them my budget so I only asked for samples within this budget. Each sample had a store sticker on the back with the material info and the price. The one that I was interested in had a sale price until 8/19. I go to call in the order and the 800 number says that''s the wrong price. I think OK maybe it''s the sale price for the NY store (maybe it was an overstock sitiuation?)

I called the Manhattan store and spoke to the salesperson that helped me 3 days prior. She then tells me the price that SHE put on the sample is wrong and it''s more money. I told her that I remember the price being just that because if it were any more $$ I would have NOT asked for a sample since it would have been out of my budget. She kept saying it was a mistake and the price is what''s on the website. I asked her to see if her manager would honor the price quoted. She said she never quoted me a price (mind you I filled out paperwork, wrote down how much sq footage I would be ordering and we calculated how much it would all come out (we calculated 2 diff. styles). I said to her the time we spent calculating total cost with THIS price stated on the back of the sample is not a quote? Then what''s a quote?

Well she wouldn''t budge (she''s been working there less than 2 wks). I asked to speak to the MGR and she wouldn''t speak to me. I was very nice this entire time and was shocked that they wouldn''t want this business and were willing to give up my business for a rather large order. I guess they are doing well in this economy.

Should a store honor their quote even if they claim a few days later they wrote down the wrong price?

I would physically go back to the store to ask to speak with a manager. If she then said that they will not honor the price, then I would just let it go. It's very annoying, I'm sorry this happened.

Do you have the paperwork where the prices were calculated?

Of course, honoring their original quote would be the right thing to do, but if this is a small business and they don't want to budge to satisfy you, they're not going to. It's funny since all types of businesses are struggling and you would think they'd bend over backwards to please their customers, but this does happen sometimes.

If it's a branded floor tile, you can comp shop it on line or over the phone with bigger flooring sellers.

Have you looked at the selections at Home Depot and Lowe's? While they usually have very basic stuff, they have sometimes surprised me.

If you drive and are willing to venture out of Manhattan, I can suggest some tile stores to you. Also, every tile store has a small section in the back of styles of tiles that they've marked down and want to get rid of almost at cost. You can sometimes get a $4.- tile for a buck each if they're closing it out.

This is one of my favorite stores to look for tile. You wouldn't think so by the size of the store but they quite literally have everything every type made. They're in Westbury.

thanks for the heads up with the tile store!

UPDATE!!!!

I emailed the corp headquarters last night and they emailed me this morning. They forwarded my email to the NY regional manager and he just called. WOW what service. He said that they take their emails seriously and want to honor the quote. They don''t want to lose a client nor do they want to disappoint anyone.

YIPPEE..I''m getting my bamboo flooring for the price QUOTED! He was so nice and understanding..

YAY..just had to share

NOW to find the kitchen tiles

Awesome!! I''m glad everything worked out for you!! Bamboo floors!! I want them too when I get a house!!

I was trying to remember the name of my husband''s favorite tile store. Bergen Tile. There''s one here on Long Island but I think they had Brooklyn and Queens stores also. You can call and ask. The center aisle of their stores always had hundreds of boxes of marked down tile that there was nothing wrong with. They just keep their inventory moving. My husband paid a little less than $100.- for our laundry room porcelain tile and my laundry room is something like 11x17. He''s a good negotiator. Oh yes, you can negotiate there if you''re willing to take all they have of a particular style and color.

If a customer is quoted a price, then that price should be honored if written down as in your case. But I can see where they would try to explain the situation when you hadnt purchased at that time and they caught the problem before a purchase was made.New employee error is so costly to companies.Managers and supervisors either dont train well enough or are so busy they cant supervise the newbies all the time.I think its great the the company honored their price and its terrible business that the manager would not speak to you and left a new employee to try to clean up this customer service mess!Sounds like poor management and poor training got you a great deal.

ITTA that the manager should have spoken to me. I heard her in the background but she wouldn''t get on. The regional manager was GREAT and so were the Execs of the company. The regional mgr is heading to their store tomorrow. I''m sure this will be discussed with them so it won''t happen again.

Oh! I love bamboo, we have it in our house too. What color did you get? Horizontal or vertical?
