When the weather is not suitable for being outside my mind turns towards indoor activities :naughty: :cheeky: and that includes games of all sorts. Board games, card games etc. What are your favorites and why? I'm looking for new options so appreciate your recommendations. Thanks for sharing.

Sequence, Yahtzee, Cards of Humanity.

I play solitaire on a little handheld computer every night in bed.

I love Scrabble, Jenga and chess though I'm not very good at them.

I've never played a 'video' game.

Rummy tiles. Love this game - your mind is in constant thought.

Cards against humanity is really fun - I only played for the first time recently and it was laugh out loud funny. Sequence is really fun also, and of course I've always been a fan of trivial pursuit.

HI:

We are not big gamers...mainly b/c my DH is such a bad sport. Although as kids we "had" to be 'cause my Mom wanted us busy and out of her hair! Scrabble, sorry, and trouble were my favs. And skipbo with my nephews.

cheers--Sharon

Cards against humanity is SO funny, but I think its best played with more people and a ton of expansion packs.

One of my favourite things to do is hit up value village and see what random board games they have. They're cheap, generally have all the pieces, and I found some new interesting ones. Examples, tool time (with tim 'the toolman' taylor LOL), where you collect different tools for random household projects lol. Rodeo rama, where you 'compete' in different rodeo events. You also get a coupon when you donate items for X% off. So we would buy a few $3-$5 games, then donate them back after we got bored of them and look for more.

Rummy 500!

Never have I ever...

As it happens I'm visiting game-playing friends right now... so far we've played Sequence, Farkle, Golf, and Oh Hell. The latter two use two decks of regular playing cards. They all involve varying degrees of strategy: Oh Hell and Sequence require the most, and Farkle (a dice game) requires the least. I'm terrible at strategy games generally but I do have fun with these.

One of my favorites is Set, a pattern recognition game that I think has something for both left- and right- brained sorts. Unfortunately I have yet to sell my science and engineering focused companions on its virtues!

It's been a while since I've played it, but I also like Big Boggle, a word game. It was discontinued and impossible to find for many years, but it seems to have been reissued lately!

I like beer pong too

It's a toss up between Cards Against Humanity, Cribbage, Hearts, Yahtzee and Scrabble.

Is that like strip poker, only with alcohol? :naughty:

It's not a game but I love jigsaw puzzles. When my mother was alive and lived with us, we went through hundreds of them. It was something we both enjoyed and would spend hours at at a time working on them. DH on the other hand is bored silly by them.

I loved them too, when I was a kid.
Maybe I'll get one.
Thanks.

Maybe there is an online jigsaw recycling site.
When finished they have no value to me, but I'd hate to throw them away.

Too bad we don't live closer to each other, I could lend you one of about 150 I have in storage. See, I can't get rid of mine either  .

Just curious ... how many of those 150 have you done more than once?

Me too! It was our family tradition for my sisters-in-law and I to work a 1,000 piece puzzle when we were at my parents' house for big holidays. The other part of the tradition is that my mother would chide us for being bent over a puzzle and not visiting. Of course we were visiting, just not in a way that she was used to. I also did a whole bunch of puzzles when I was caretaking my father last year.

Kenny: thrift stores are usually a good place to find puzzles. Museum gift shops, though, are a good place to find really nice jigsaw puzzles.

Probably one-third. It's like favourite books, tv shows or movies - if I like them I'll re-watch or re-read multiple times. My favourite puzzles I'll re-do many times as long as they are in good shape.

Thanks.

I think the main downside to 'used' puzzles is not knowing whether pieces are missing.

You discover that at the end.
That's very disappointing to learn after spending a long time working on one. :knockout:

Thank you all for your great recommendations! I ordered Cards by Humanity and it is coming tonight woohoo Amazon Prime!

Pinto  :cheeky:..any updates re your new addition? I cannot wait to hear from you! :appl:

Yesterday afternoon my dh taught me how to play Chess. When I was younger (around 8 years old) my dad taught me how to play and I used to play with him but he was way too good for most people let alone an 8 year old and I lost interest. 40 plus years later I completely forgot how to play so yesterday I re learned and I enjoyed playing Chess with my dh. It is a hard game but I can see (if I don't allow the game to get me too frustrated that is) I might just enjoy continuing playing Chess. We will see. It took up the whole afternoon!

I haven't heard of some of the games you guys recommended but will be checking out each recommendation you made. I appreciate the time you took to share with me what games you enjoy and plan on ordering more games this week. Thank you!

Uno...I play with the kids!

Awesome thread!

Spades for cards. Apart from CAH.
Lately we've been playing Powergrid and Carcassone (sp?) for board games. Both are awesome.

All time favorite is pictionary with the aid of some adult libations.

Thank you all for the additional recs! So far I have ordered and received Bananagrams (thank you Pinto!) and Cards for Humanity -thank you Monnie and thank you to those who backed up this rec!. We haven't had time to try out any of the new games but maybe next weekend. And I am going to read all the recommendations here again and order some more games. Really appreciate you guys chiming in with what games you enjoy. My evil plan is that by ordering lots of games the good weather will finally come and I won't be able to play any of them because we will be outside all weekend. Hahaha I have an evil mind don't I? :naughty: :Up_to_something: :cheeky:

Settlers of Catan for some strategy board game. Some good old scrabble. There is also a dice and card game called Bang that is fun and can handle larger group
More luck than strategy. Thanks for starting a fun thread and hope to learn about other games out there to try!
