What's the first thought when you see this picture?

What's the first thought when you see this picture?

  • Why are the different toasts in the same basket?

  • Why is the toast rectangular?

  • Why doesn't the spread go to the edges?

  • What is on the 4th piece of toast?

  • Why does this picture bother the OP so much that they need to create a poll?

  • Other. Please comment

Five people said they can't have different flavors of toast touching. Can someone explain? This seems unreasonably picky.....lololol!
What happens when you have a plate of food at dinner..........

I don’t have an issue with food touching each other on a plate, but these toast spreads seem totally uncomplimentary with one another.

The most disgusting topping ever. Vitamin B paste , taste super salty and like s***. They love it in Australia cause it gives you rosy cheeks. Kids there eat it like we eat Peanutbutter

sounds like you arnt doing it right
a lettuce, cheese and vegemite sandwhich :lickout:

ill eat marmite too, bujt only the NZ stuff, its completly diferent to the UK one

First thoughts after laughing at your poll options and wishing there was a like button for it:
1. What the heck am I looking at here?
2. Where on earth did @jaysonsmom find this picture?
3. Which one is the fourth piece of toast?

Answer to 3. The 4th piece of toast is peeking out from the bottom left corner of the vegemite/Nutella toast

That spread looks really unappetizing. Also the basket would look way prettier with enough white napkins to spill over the edges. The beauty of baskets is in looking like they're overflowing with something.

Totally agree with the napkin beneath the toast being way to small! Food needs to taste good AND look appealing!

This! (Except Marmite not Vegemite as I’m a Brit ;)2). I’m not a huge fan of the flavour when it’s ‘neat’ (twiglets make me gag), but a thin scraping of marmite on a cheese sandwich is honestly sublime. Is umami the term for it? It makes the cheese just…more somehow. So good!

My thoughts on the toast picture itself can be summarised in two words: thoroughly unappealing.

ive never tried the UK version
from googerling its syrup like and sweet
i have to admit i buy marmite because the other half wont eat vegemite and finances dont allow for us to have both as vegemite is a little bit dearer

i acually like either under a poached egg on toast

@jaysonsmom now we need to know what the spreads were!!

Is that marmite?

I TOTALLY agree.
Marmite is what you want.
Marmite is the good stuff.
Marmite n chip sandwiches. Marmite and butter on criscuits. Marmite on apples.
Mmmmmmmmm.
❤️

I read through the first several posts and so many people said "vegemite". I was like, hmm...why has no one said "marmite"?

I used to really love marmite on toast growing up in the UK. But now I hardly eat it cuz of its high salt content.

No!!
I vividly remember moving from Auckland to Brisbane and thinking Vegemite was the same as the Marmite I grew up with and being so disappointed!! They’re really not the same.
Similar, but vegemite is SO much stronger and more bitter, it sort of just slaps you in the face a few times and flounces off before you can recover. Marmite, on the other hand, is a warm and rich velvet that soothes the throat and enthralls the senses without, yknow, assaulting them…
I buy my Marmite and Milky Bars at a 1000% markup from the local Brit outpost here. Worth it!!

I always love your posts. Your writing is remarkable!

What's the first thought when you see this picture? There is no right or wrong answer, I just want to know if I'm normal (think like the average person) or not?

toast test.jpg

first thing that comes to mind: What’s that brown stuff ?

I showed DH this picture last night and his first thought was why the roast was abnormally long. He also needs whatever is on toast spread all the way to the edge all the way around so that bothers him too.

Sounds like it was just a foodie posting food! Guess I don’t bother to scrutinize food pics anymore. Lol.

My first thought was "yuck, vegemite!" Sorry to all you Aussies out there!

Reading these posts and all I keep thinking of is this: Yeah, because it's awesome.

I hope the “brown” toast is Marmite and not Nutella….at least it would make sense at a steakhouse and in a basket with garlic bread.

When we lived in South Africa, marmite and butter sandwiches was often my after school snack or Marmite on cheese and crackers….now you guys are making me nostalgic and I want to run down to the African store (world market) to get some!

Anyway, I wanted to see if i was the only oddball with food OCD, and I’m glad to see I’m in good company…and I can show my husband that I’m perfectly “normal” by PS standards! Most of us are trying to get the perfect specs for our diamonds, and I want a perfect piece of toast!

This thread is so hilarious! Thanks for explaining the photo, @jaysonsmom

I wouldn't say I'm food OCD, but then again, reading some of the responses, maybe I am...:???:

They are missing the piece of toast with avocado smeared on it!

i think your right
its also not dark enough

i feel like making toast
:lol-2:

ive never seen toast served in a basket
im a fan of the old toast rack

Im currently walking round and round the most expensive gourmet supermarket I could find, right next to the British and Australian embassy's. Hopefully they'll have some vegimite I can eat on Christmas day .

I thought the dark colored piece had black olive tapenade on it.

Posts like this make me glad I am gluten free.

Okay, I’ll explain the reason for this poll….my husband thinks I have OCD tendencies when it comes to food prep.

MY first thought was…who spread the toast?!?! Why aren’t any of the spreads going to the edges? Everything I make has to be perfectly layered. Lunch meat and cheese have to be trimmed to off the bread for sandwiches spread has to go all the way to edges, lasagna noodles have to be trimmed to fit the pan, food has to be seasoned on every side. I cannot stand uneven filling in a wrap or burrito…..

But, all the other answers in my poll reflected subsequent thoughts in my mind….odd shaped bread, different spreads all in one basket, and who the heck serves this basket of toast?!??

So I asked my friend who posted this pic…he said it was taken at a steakhouse in Taiwan, and that the signature assorted toast was the complimentary bread basket they serve with their steak!!!! Which again brings me back to who the heck made this toast? A 5 year old who can’t spread?

Anyway, I wanted to see if i was the only oddball with food OCD, and I’m glad to see I’m in good company…and I can show my husband that I’m perfectly “normal” by PS standards! Most of us are trying to get the perfect specs for our diamonds, and I want a perfect piece of toast!

Yuck!!! My opinion of the "what's wrong in the photo" really changed when I read that toast mess was actually being served to people in a restaurant. I originally thought the toast basket was just a photo prop; not something any human would eat. The idea of the toast touching the basket (which probably goes from table to table unwashed) is absolutely disgusting. To say the least, the "flavored spreads" also seem very odd in appearance and in combination. Did your friend say if he actually ate any of that stuff?

That looks like poop. On diapers...

Didn't know Vegemite was a thing outside of Australia!
