I''ll try to find a picture of this when I get home from work later, but the bravest thing I''ve done is gone parasailing. At first it was fun (I went up with my sister in Key West last winter) but when we got higher than the birds, I freaked out. My poor sister. She kept telling me that it was just like flying a kite, and I pointed out to her (in high pitched screams) that WE WERE THE KITES. There was nothing fun about being up so high at the time and having the wind blow us around so much. Of course when we got back to the boat, I felt better and I said I might even do it again someday. I haven''t though.

love.

Using CPR on someone who had a heart attack when I was s lifeguard.

Bungee jumping.

Bungee jumping. I love heights and thrills like roller coasters and all that good stuff, but having to be the one in charge of actually jumping... Prolly the most scared I''ve ever been.

I saved my daughter''s life when she was an infant. I don''t really consider it brave because there was absolutely no choice in the matter, but it''s still the talk of my family haha.

She''s a healthy toddler now!

I guess I''ve done a lot of things that most would consider ''brave,'' but really they were just necessary to protect my mom. The [hopefully] last hurdle is coming up soon, and I think that will be one of the most bravest moments in my life.

Left my husband and became a single Mom.

Lots of stuff but the scariest thing was the Big Shot on top of the Stratosphere in Las Vegas!

Other stuff like Deep Diving, Zip Lines over canyons, training an untrained horse on my own, leaving my first husband

I think I''m kind of a wimp! I don''t know that I''ve done anything that''s really brave. I signed up to give blood next week, and I''m scared out of my mind (I''m terrified of needles and hate blood and the thought of doing this is just
14.gif
). So I guess if I can make it through that, it''ll count.

moved away from my hometown for a year

We once had a horse stuck in a fence, and I was the first one to get to him and I got him up.

Riding green horses who don''t know a thing.

I bit of a different side, but the bravest thing I''ve done was to switch jobs when I was 4 months pregnant. Totally worth it, but I was so scared.

Saving a child from drowning last summer, going on a rollercoaster (I''m scared of heights), standing up to my "friends", not quitting college when it felt like I would never finish, getting myself out of debt, getting the h*ll out after that bad relationship before I met dh, allowing myself to fall in love with dh, and moving out to colorado with dh

Scared off a shark that was eyeing my DH while he had his head poked under a reef looking for lobster. Luckily the
shark retreated and I gave myself a little pat on the back.

Writing and then reading the eulogy at my grandmother''s funeral.

I know this act doesn''t fit the standard idea of "brave" but it certainly took a lot more than I thought I had inside of me.

Sounds like we have a few divers here - cool. cnspotts - I used to do some deep diving but didn''t have the opportunity to dive enough to feel safe doing it sporadically.

I''ve been a volunteer firefighter and EMT for years. I have lots of stories. Here are a few that come to my mind quickly.

1) I was driving home from work one day and came across a bad car accident. No police or fire/EMS were there yet so I checked out both cars and found the driver seriously injured in one. I somehow managed my way into the mangled car and started doing patient care on the driver. The ambulance crew showed up and did what they could from the outside while I worked on the inside. They had to cut the roof off the car while I was inside to get the driver out. It was quite an experience.

2) While doing some live fire training on an old house, we had been burning rooms and putting them out all day. The house was getting pretty well burned up and they did one last evolution. I was behind the nozzle man and I had one other guy several feet behind me. The fire was raging above us and the room was very hot. The nozzle man quickly attacked the fire and thought he had it. He turned his head towards me with a bit of pride and at that moment, the whole room erupted in flames. A flashover - when an area is so superheated that everything just bursts into flame. My nozzle man was on the floor. I leaned over him, grabbed the nozzle, and attacked the fire. I had brand-new high-tech gear at the time and came out uninjured. My nozzleman and the guy behind me suffered from minor burns. Fortunately, the gear I was wearing is pretty much standard these days. Some say it''s too good as we can''t feel the heat and be aware of dangerous conditions as much. All I know is it did it''s job and protected me.

3) I was driving home from somewhere and came across an accident. I''m not sure if fire or EMS was there yet but it was literally right in front of their fire station. I stopped to offer a hand. While the crews did their work, I noticed one of the wrecked vehicles was starting to roll. It was on a slight hill and I knew it would quickly pick up speed. There were stopped vehicles and people not far behind it. I dove in head first (not sure if it was through an open door or the window) and mashed the brake with my hand.

4) I don''t like to talk about this one but it was bravery beyond belief for the two guys in front of me. It was a raging house fire in the middle of the night. Reports of several people trapped inside and neighbors heard screaming. There was a crew shooting water through a back door. The stairs had collapsed and the crew said there was no way in. I grabbed a roof ladder and put it up to a 2nd floor sliding window. My senior officer and another FF went up the ladder and in through the burning kitchen. As I was getting ready to enter behind them, one of the two handed me one of the children. It was too late and that''s all I can handle talking about this one.

I can''t imagine the strength it took for that. You got my vote for fitting the standard for "brave".

Here''s my bravest moment. This was when it was still at the fun stage (in the beginning!).

Oh wow -- many of you have done REALLY brave things. Saving someone''s life takes the cake.

Another thing I did that I consider brave (for me, at least):

Quitting my job in publishing and going to grad school full time. I had no money and was living off student loans (which I''ll be paying off FOREVER), but it was the happiest time of my life. It was scary to give up job security and go into a completely new field, but it was such a great learning experience. Plus, I met my husband while in grad school, so we might never have met if I didn''t take that path. I''m not sure that this was really brave in the true sense of the word, but since it''s my thread, I''m making it count.

Told cancer to f*** off.
Quit a job when I had life long security.
Just today I took my kids to the grocery store when they were hungry.

Sitting for the exams of the Legal Council of the State at a time that i had just given birth to my daughter and beating approximately 400 other people by ranking first in the exams (while everybody was telling me that a mother who just gave birth to a baby doesn''t stand a chance in those difficult exams...). Leaving my ex husband when my daughter was less that two years old and taking full responsibility for her. Fighting and keeping my sanity while he was trying to take revenge by taking my daughter''s custody (while falsly accusing me to the police and district attorney that i was beating my own child
32.gif
) and beating his ass on that too. Meeting my beloved fiance'' after all that, thousands of miles above the ground, on a flight to Canada, falling in love with him, staying in a relationship with him for five years while he was in Canada and i was in Greece and BELIEVING that in a magic way we''ll work this out and we''ll get married (we got engaged last July and we''re getting married in May). Going back to the Law School at the age of 33, while working and being a single mother, and getting a PhD in Civil Law (my convocation ceremony is coming up on Wednesday).
Nothing is impossible for a brave heart...

I saved a friend from drowning in our pool... I was about 11-12. She couldn''t swim, and somehow got into too deep of water and lost her floatee. I swam over and grabbed her and dragged her to safety. She almost drowned me in the process, but I didn''t know what else to do.

On my destination wedding/honeymoon I went scuba diving in a cave with sharks 6 feet away from me

I was not one bit scared at the time, I was just thinking ''this is so cool!''. Now I

at myself, but I would totally do it again!

Also, going back to school to finish my degree after being out for 4 years, and quitting my ''career'' to do so. I am finally living my dream to become a doctor/biochemist/researcher/forensic analyst. We''ll see. Hopefully all of them

I think the bravest thing I''ve done is the multi-pitch trad rock climbing I used to do with my DH and BIL. Thinking about some of those climbs still makes my hands sweat!

Oh - I forgot this! I was really scared leading up to it, but really calm once we got to the temple. Totally at peace. But when I actually thought about it I was kind of horrified at the idea!

(Btw - he was one of several)
