What's the best way to handle this--RE Credit Report

So I got a copy of my credit report sent to me, just so I can see what the bank is viewing, and I assume my score is still this high despite an inaccuracy I see and I hope goes higher when this is fixed.

My current credit union, whom our main credit card is through, reported a lost/stolen card (it was) as not only lost stolen but 90+ days delinquent which I can handily prove it is definitely NOT. As I go through the account on the report is shows a zero balance, account paid, no late payments, and closed, and then "lost stolen" below it. So...what the hell is the delinquent?

I filed a dispute about it, and then was told by the credit bureau to contact them since I still have accounts with them, and discuss. They are telling me that they reported it as such because it was, despite my having all the documentation (all my billing statements, an online record of all payments from both my bank statements AND the only payment site where I make the payments) to prove otherwise. They required that I fax copies to them of all of it (they're like 20 minutes away but Im not driving there today) which I did. But why am I doing the work for them?

First of all, why would they have done this when everything on our accounts has been flawless, and they're the ones that called us about the suspicious activity in the first place! Then why would they fight it when I inquire about it? I already want to quit them, so that's on the list of things to do anyway. But now I have this to get corrected on my record and it's an infuriating inaccuracy, and they have all the proof they need right there to prove it.

No recommendations other than what you have been doing, but I just wanted to send you some hugs. Dealing with that kind of stuff is so frustrating. Especially when the answer is so easy and you have the proof. Keep at it.

In the meantime, put together a letter of explanation, all your evidence and document what has happened. The mortgage company will include it in your file. BTW, don't close out any accounts until the mortgage closes (or any credits cards, and don't allow any credit pulls on your credit in the meantime).Good luck!!! Going through a refi now and it's taking forever. I just had to explain why I don't need 150% of my appraisal value in insurance because the LAND DOESN'T BURN DOWN, lady!!! :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: <sigh>

I had already talked to the guy at the bank--personal referral--about this, but we got amazing rates regardless of it. He knows it's being corrected. I have all my documentation all clipped together, should I need to provide it. I am giving my credit union the 72 hours it assured me it would take to update across all three bureaus. We saw why our scores were what they were, and without that delinquency, we'd be even higher, and we're already really high in the scores. So...I just hope it's corrected and soon.

At least they didn't report you to the credit bureau as dead. Now that's a nightmare.

I feel like there's a good story in here somewhere..!?

I just got a chill reading that because I don't even want to think about what a nightmare that is.

So it's been corrected. They got the delinquency fixed, but it removed the lost-stolen thing and changed it to closed by consumer. She said that's actually better for me than lost stolen since it would be (it is) the third card in 3 years that had that issue with them, and they don't want the bureau considering us careless (we arent, only one was actually physically stolen, the other two were people using our numbers online that they caught, this included). So I'm happy with it being handled. I don't know how quickly the other bureaus get it, I checked TransUnion and it was done there.

But wow. That was stressful. I hope that vastly improves my number. It was high already but I want it higher.

Not as good as you would think. An acquaintance, who has the same name as their father and used the same banking institution was mistakenly reported dead by the bank when his father died. He had a hell of a time proving that he was still alive. I think it took almost 2 years to get it straightened out. DH is also a Jr, so I always kept a close eye on our credit, since his parents was less than stellar, incase anything was reported incorrectly. Even after he passed. I have also heard of banks doing this with no plausable reason for the mistake.

You need to keep a closer eye on your credit if you share a name within a family. We only had one thing pop up on our credit that was DH's fathers and it wasn't a negative report, but DH's cousin had lots of problems and he wasn't even a true Jr. They shared a first name but not a middle and DH's cousin had multiple negative reports show up on his credit report that were actually his fathers.
