Just curious. I know there have been threads about this before, but I wanted to hear from the ladies who are putting their music lists together now.

We''re having jazz standards (and Harry Connick, Jr. and Michael Buble, etc.) during the cocktail hour and dinner.

Some of my favorite artists are a little hard to dance to (like Sarah McLachlan, Natalie Merchant, to name just a couple), so their music will also be played during dinner.

For dancing, my mom is insisting that we have the Electric Slide.

I don''t really like dancing, let alone anything choreographed (and really outdated), but she insists.

I think the only music we said we didn''t want played is rap (and hip hop -- R. Kelly, etc.

). I told the DJ to use his judgement, otherwise.

I was just working on our specific playlist/requests today! It''s a relief to see we''re on the same page, Zoe!

Our NOT TO PLAY list includes all of the dances like the electric slide. Although they can be fun, it really depends on the crowd, and I have a feeling with my crowd they would just empty the floor. Also we are not playing any disco.

Our play list is really eclectic. Since FI hates all pop music, we''re playing classic rock during dinner. Then dancing will start with upbeat oldies like Twist, Shout, Celebration, Beach Boys, and old schoolers like Sinatra and Michael Buble...then transition a bit through newer sounds but still laid back like Al Green, Joss Stone, Alicia Keys. And then as it gets later, we are going to play fun pop songs like Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Outkast, etc.

I''m working on my playlists today too!

Do not play:
Hokey Pokey
Chicken Dance
Cotted Eye Joe
YMCA

My play list is huge...playing lots of 80''s, classic rock, 90''s dance hits, a few slow country songs, some Jack Johnson, John Mayer, Nora Jones during dinner. We both have lots of favorites, so it''s not hard to come up with songs.

I''ve also been adding a song to my Blackberry notepad whenever I hear one or think of one.

Definitely! Oohh, Joss Stone -- I had forgotten about her! We''ll add her stuff to our list. We don''t have a lot of "must play" music. Is it horrible to say that I don''t really care much? I mean, I want the DJ to do his job -- read the crowd and play really good music. I''m not much of an afficianado (sp?), and I''m not a dancer. We''ll see how it goes.

We''ll definitely have March Cohn and lots of Van Morrison. We''ll have Twist and Shout also. My mom wants "We Are Family" played at the end. I don''t see our families gelling at any point in our lives, so it seems like an odd choice.

Okay, now I''m getting worried. Do I really have to put together a list? I mean, I know I began this thread and all, but I just don''t know. I need to have faith in the DJ. My parents went to a wedding last summer that he did, and they recommended us to him. They said he was really good, but I''m not sure if that was because the bride and groom had a long list that he followed or if he just did his thing and it worked.

Just over two more weeks Sabine! Are you ready?

Hey Zoe!! Wow you are getting so close! Anyway, I am putting together a list. Do you need to? Not necessarily, but I INSIST on putting together a list, but that''s because I am very picky and controlling.

Zoe, you definitely do not need to put together a full list. They have great songs they will play...I''m just doing this because I love love love music. I''m one of those that hears a song and says "Oh this is my favorite song!" and I say the same thing abot 100''s of them.

We''re having an 8-piece band, and they gave us a HUGE list of songs that they play and asked us to cross out the ones we absolutely do not want, and to star the ones we definitely want. Then they''ll fill in the rest.
Basically, we''ll have a lot of great jazz and some swing, rock, and a bit of contemporary.

Here''s what we came up with:

DO NOT PLAY
Baby Got back
Macarena
Electric Slide
Celebration
Whoomp There It Is
Wind Beneath My Wings
Conga
Hot Hot Hot
I Will Survive
Livin La Vida Loca
Jailhouse Rock
Twist and Shout

We''re having a solo piano player during the cocktail hour and for the first hour of the meal, and then the 8 piece orchestra will be in full swing for the rest of the reception. I can''t wait, they are amazing!

Haven, I need to copy your "do not play" list!! LOL
