Ahhhh, tis the season. This little dove decided my neighbor's garbage can lid is the perfect nesting spot. There are 2 eggs on the nest. My neighbor's are taking their garbage to the dump until the family moves out.
Ah, that is so cute. Hopefully there are no raccoons around
There is a robin building a nest by us and the other day it swooped down across so close to my head, it fluttered my hair! I think it may have been attacking me. lol My cat goes nuts all day long watching all the activity outside in our trees.
What a pretty little dove, dumb or not. Nice neighbors.
Our house is a zoo, sigh. Carolina wrens set up housekeeping in the garage every spring. The dryer is vented into the garage & sounds like a jet taking off out there, so, birds' hearing being ultra-acute, I don't dry clothes at night when the garage door is shut. Also have to open up at dawn every morning or Mama & Papa have twin breakdowns about getting breakfast before somebody else snags it. Watching them toil in & out all day long, we see how hard they work to feed the family. Being a bird ain't no picnic!
Last winter when we were making the 1st fire in the fireplace DH went to the woodpile & pulling off the tarp, found a possum all rolled up on the logs, sound asleep. (I think they hibernate, not sure.) The little guy looked up at him & blinked, still half asleep. DH tucked him back in & bought wood from the supermarket all winter!
We have mallards that visit our neighborhood each spring to lay eggs (1 male and 1 female). Last year they laid eggs in our strawberry patch, but when we did not see them sitting on the nest anymore we noticed the eggs were gone (shells on the lawn). I think the fox got them unfortunately.
This year it was weird though. One female and 2 males were making their rounds together, but I do not know where they set up house this time.
That is really sweet. We had a dove that "adopted" our family when I was a little girl. She wouldn't leave our backyard, despite us having 2 outdoor dogs and a cat. My dad built a little modified "bird house" for her. She was with us for years - super sweet little bird!
And supremely stupid of the Dove Your neighbours are not doing the Dove population any favours letting that Dove successfully breed!
It reminds me of the bunny who decided that our back yard was a good place to dig her den and have her babies. We have two dogs, who surely left their scent all around the area.
