I had chinese food. I have chinese food every day LOL Okay - so my ayi made some wonderful chinese food just as we were walking out the door to get a "free western buffet" at this party we were going to - the buffet food sucked rocks (and not the sparkly kind) so I ate leftovers when I got home lol

I'm pretty sure I'll be having chinese for dinner tonight too. Maybe for lunch. Go figure!

Where are these recipes? I think we need a special thread JUST for recipes sans discussion lol

ETA - more specifically it was scrambled egg with bell pepper, sliced pork loin in some kind of caramelized onion and carrot sauce, and chunks of candied sweet potato. She cooked the sweet potato and then tossed it in a melted sugar concoction leaving it candy coating crispy on the outside. It was fantastic but ironically the kids didn't like it - weirdos! When I put it like this it doesn't really sound chinese, does it? lol

where is this chicken recipe Haven?! im getting myself all excited for bbq season

last night i made my version of ''carbonara''. To be honest though its nothing like real carbonara. I use real cream, pancetta and cilantro (accidentally picked it up once instead of flat leaf parsely but it goes fantastically!)...

so tonight its left over carbonara

tomorrow night ill be trying out a thai green curry recipe which im looking forward to

Here''s Haven''s Barbecue Recipe (copied and pasted from her original post):

"Ingredients
6 frozen skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
1 (12 ounce) bottle barbeque sauce
1/2 cup Italian salad dressing
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Directions
1. Place chicken in a slow cooker. In a bowl, mix the barbeque sauce, Italian salad dressing, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour over the chicken.
2. Cover, and cook 3 to 4 hours on High or 6 to 8 hours on Low.

My notes
- I never cook frozen meat, I always use fresh chicken breasts.
- This is important: Use a BBQ sauce that has a molasses base, not a vinegar base. The molasses-based sauce will give you a nice, thick sauce when it''s all cooked. The vinegar-based sauce will be runny."

It''s seriously yummy, and living in Georgia, I''ve had a heckuva lot of barbecue! I might be making that again tuesday, haha!

Lauren, it''s pretty funny--I remember a while back you mentioned having a food blog, but since we can''t post links to those on here, I just figured I''d stay out of the loop forever. I went foraging on the web looking for a recipe for baked sweet potato fries because I really don''t like frying stuff, and it took me a good bit to realize I had accidentally found your blog, haha! BTW, totally highjacked your brownie recipe, too!

I actually have a slab of pork in the fridge right now that I really had no plans for, so I just may wind up stealing this one as well! Otherwise, it''ll be cubed steaks with bell peppers and tomato, possibly scalloped potatoes, and a bucket of salad. I''m craving salads these days!

LOL, Doodle! Very cool that you found it!

About the bacon brownies - when in doubt, add more bacon! One of our fellow PSers gave the recipe to a bacon-loving friend of hers and she made them for a movie night. She emailed me to tell me that Penn Jillette declared they were the best thing he''d eaten all year. Totally made my day. My week. And my month.

Are you signed up for the RSS feed? I just posted my sister''s wedding cake - Cinnamon Vanilla Cake with Mexican Hot Chocolate frosting, and I am dying to try and recreate the recipe.

Or, I could be horribly inappropriate and try to sneak over to their house on their first anniversary and attempt to steal a bite of the top layer.

I''ve got you listed on the blogs I follow, and yes, I saw that wedding cake and pouted--I was a total cinnamon FIEND for most of my life, woke up one morning, and pretty much overnight had developed a violent allergy to cinnamon. Weirdest thing ever, and I still push my luck sometimes and eat something with it anyway (ya know, just in case the allergy was just kidding), and wind up not being able to speak for several days because my tongue swells up so bad!

Oh, and I maintain that if you offered to cook dinner for your sister and bro-in-law on their anniversary, that''d negate any inappropriateness of stealing a bite of cake!

A cup of chicken herb soup and an h''or d''oeuvre portion of smoked salmon, capers, minced red onion, and creme fraiche on toast. And a "Don''t Call Me Shirley Temple".... :)

Oh, man Doodle! I''m so sorry! I have a massive citrus allergy and my tongue swells up like a balloon when I have very lime-ey margaritas. I still indulge once in a while, but I''m with you - what a pain to be allergic to cinnamon!

You are a fabulous enabler. I''m sooooo going to offer to make dinner for the 4 of us. We did introduce them, after all.

Dinner tonight is Red Snapper en Papillote from alton brown. I have a whole red snapper chilling in the fridge for tonight.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup couscous
  • 1 (2-pound) whole red snapper, cleaned, head on
  • 2 teaspoons salt, plus pinch for couscous
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 small bunch fresh oregano
  • 1 small bunch fresh parsley
  • 1 whole lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup thinly sliced red onion
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 cup halved grape tomatoes
  • 1 cup drained and quartered artichoke hearts
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • 1 tablespoon butter
Directions:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

Rinse couscous in fine mesh strainer, under cold water, lay out on parchment lined baking sheet and sprinkle with pinch of salt. Set aside. Cut parchment paper into 15 by 48-inch sheet. Fold in 1/2 and lay on baking/cookie sheet. Unfold and lay snapper diagonally on sheet pan on top of 1 layer of parchment. Salt and pepper fish, inside and out. Place herbs inside cavity of fish along with 1/2 of lemon, and 1/2 of red onion. Arrange couscous next to fish on all sides. Put garlic, and remaining lemon and red onion on fish and lay tomatoes and artichoke hearts around outside of couscous, creating somewhat of a wall. Pour wine over fish and dot with butter. Fold over edges of parchment paper, stapling if necessary, to create and almost airtight seal. Bake in oven for 30 minutes. Carefully open and serve (be aware of bones in the fish).

I made steak fajitas with green bell pepper, yellow onion, roma tomatoes and avocado. Cheated and used Rice a Roni Fajita rice, but it was dang tasty! DH managed to stay awake long enough to eat his fill and is now passed out in Fajita Overload Oblivion!

I love some of the recipes all of you posted...can''t wait to try them!

Harleigh, right now I would MAIM for a steak fajita!!! MMMMMMM! Still haven''t figured out what we''re eating tonight since last night''s dinner basically consisted of rum and coke, beer, and a shot of something blue, haha! My hair hurts.

Anyone planning on cooking something fabulous that I can be jealous of tonight?

We are making tacos tonight.

beef skirt steak dry rubbed and marinated in a bit of lime juice then cooked with
onions, garlic, chipotles, a bit of tomato, cilantro, and spices (cumin, corriander, cinnamon, ancho chile powder)

Served with:
black beans (cooked with onion & cumin)
rice (aged basmatti with tomatoes, lemon zest, cumin, & saffron)
lots of lettuce & fresh tomatoes

A small yogurt and a banana. Off to French class right after work and will get back home past 10pm. Too late to eat dinner so I''m guessing I''ll wake up starving.

chicken noodle soup and some whole wheat soda crackers with margarine and a glass of milk
and a few squares of dark chocolate :)
