So I ordered a rug and had the wrong rug delivered to me. The factory had mislabelled another rug... same size and color and material and maufacture but different pattern.

The vendor can't get the orignal rug I ordered BUT it is available through other vendors. BUT at a higher price.

They have given me two options:

1. I can order my original rug from another vendor and they will reimburse me for the difference in price (since I'd have to pay more for the same thing).

OR

2. I can keep the wrong rug that was shipped to me-- since it is the same color and size etc., even though it is the wrong pattern. And they will give me 20% off the price I paid for that rug. So about $190 refund.

So... which would you chose?

If you like the new rug well enough id take the 190.00, if not ship the bugger back and take them up on the price difference offer. It's not to often a company is willing to do something like that.

I'd keep it, cuz I'm lazy and never ship anything back. Add a $190 incentive and I"m totally in.

From what you've said about the decorating process so far, I think I'd be tempted to keep the rug and take the $190. I think you'd be happy if it was finished and done.

Do you like the rug? I mean, if you don't, then it's a moot point and has to go back, but if you like it, love it or could grow to love it, then I think you could hang on to it and consider that it wanted to make its way to you and you'll give it a nice home. ;))

A bargain is only a bargain if it is what you want so if you like and want the rug they mistakenly shipped you great. Keep it and get the refund. But if you are not crazy about it send it back, get the one you love and take them up on their offer of reimbursing you the difference. I wish more companies took that kind of responsibility when they mess up!

Do you love it?

... I'd agree it sounds like a pretty generous company.

As long as I liked the pattern, I'd keep it. I wouldn't want to be bothered with shipping it back. (yeah, I'm lazy :cheeky: )

Big ditto.

Thanks guys, you bring up great points.

Yeah, decorating has been a pain. Especially finding the right shades of grey.

The company is Horchow, Neiman Marcus, so I'd expect for them to have their act together. Shipping the rug back isn't an issue they will send someone to the door to package and return it, at my convenience. There is a reason I ordered from them, they are great. I would order from them again.

http://www.rugstudio.com/SuryaEssenceESS-7627.aspx Is the one I ordered.

http://www.rugstudio.com/SuryaEssenceESS-7629.aspx Is the one I got.

I like the one I ordered A LOT. And the other one... I like okay. It could grow on me. I haven't even rolled it out yet, as the second I realized it was the wrong rug I called the company.

I'm trying to find out if getting the rug from Surya though another vendor is even possible. It is backordered on every website I've seen till May. Timing wise, I don't care, if I can get it-- even late May, it's fine. But if I wait till May and I can't get it. I'm going to be ticked.

As the majority is voting to keep the existing rug, I will roll it out and see what I think.

Honestly, I LOVE the one you got. The one you ordered was nice as well, but I'd pick the one you got over it. Roll it out and see if it grows on you.

Eep! I like the one you ordered so much more than the one you got, even I'd go through the hassle of scheduling a return.

Edit: the "Eep!" was for how much I LOVE the one you ordered, to clarify.

Miss Prudential, I will do that and see what I think. :wavey:

Suchende, yeah that's how I feel too. I REALLY love the one I ordered. The one I recieved is okay. But in comparison... it's not nearly (in my opinion) as nice.

Hmmm, I love both so I'm no help really. I'd wait a few days, unroll the rug, and see if it grows on you. Who knows, you may end up loving it. If it doesn't, send it back and get them to send you the original rug you ordered.

What I love about the one you got is that the flower pattern pops out more. The pattern on the rug you ordered is more understated (subdued?). Which look are you going for? Okay, now I think I do have a preference, but it's not my rug, is it?

ETA: I should clarify. It's not so much the pattern on the original rug that is subdued. It's the faded parts towards the edges.

I think they have very different "tones." One is "refined elegance" and the second is more "youthful contemporary." Just send it back and get what you really want.

Get the one you LOVE. Remember what MrsS says, "a deal is only a deal if you are getting exactly what you want."

It really depends on the rest of the furniture in your living room. The one you ordered is whimsical and flirty. The one you received is modern. So, for instance, if you ended up getting that fiery-red zigzag table, the one you got would fit better with the feel of the room.

I had been reading your decorating threads and--WOW--you just cant catch a break!! I am so sorry for the headache this process has been for you.
I do like the rug you originally ordered better but I know the one you got *might* be better in person. I tend to do all my decorating online (the convenience gets me everytime!) so I know that it could be better once it's in your house. The computer doesn't always do a product justice.
Try it out. Put it in its place and then go with what your heart is saying. Try not to be swayed by the money or convenience. Once this process is over (and the headaches behind you), you will be glad you didn't cut any corners. You dont want to have regrets everytime you look at the rug.

I hope the rest of your decorating goes a little easier for you :))

Well I rolled it out. I like it better than I thought it would.

Kama I didn't order the funky table. Three hundred bucks for a red stool, when I can get similar stools for 80 bucks and just paint it (or have DH paint it) was too much for me. Plus our entertainment center is wood. So I got an inexpensive basic wood one that I can paint later if I want... and the lines are transitional-- a little traditional and a little contemporary.

It matches my entertainment center and works with the red accents I want to incorporate into the room.

Tacori, that is VERY true. But what I truly want is for this to be OVER. I'm still stuggling with Basset (DH is calling their corporate offices and lodging a formal complaint) to get my couch in. And I'm currently sitting on a twin air mattress in my living room. Because we have no seating at all. *Sigh* and probably won't for another 6 weeks. All I want to do is throw a temper tantrum like the one T threw that you taped (roflmao!).

Ibb, thank you honey. Yeah, on the one hand... YAY new stuff. On the other hand... What an utter PITA.

This one is more 'whimsical' than I thought it would be. And that's something I do want. I'll live with it overnight. And hopefully I'll know tomorrow if the other vendor can get the correct rug in for me. If they can, then I'll make a choice. If they can't. This one is here to stay.

Thanks so much all.

Charcoal and beige best imitates the theme/feel of the original pick.

I like most of the patterns in the other rugs, but in terms of color scheme, I'd stick with the charcoal and beige. Which one do YOU like best though?

I don't like any of those new link rugs nearly as much as I like the "mistake" rug they sent you.... I really like that one - for me that one and the one you love are a tossup. They both have their pros and cons, but I think the one they sent you edges out just a little bit for me because it's ever so slightly quirky and yet royal (I love the harlequin). I would keep the one you got and take the money but if you don't want to do that then definitely stay with the original - none of the others have the impact those two do.

Charcoal and beige is my favorite of all the rugs I've seen. My second favorite is the one you originally ordered.

I am not wild about the black and white damask rugs, just because they seem less unique than the others. They're definitely still attractive rugs, though.

I know you though. You may want it done, but you want it done right. I know you are frustrated and have a right to be. Just make sure you aren't settling! If you throw a tantrum please ask J to tape it for our viewing pleasure! ;))

You do know me Tacori. And that's why it was YOUR voice in my head when I rolled out the rug last night. The picture is misleading-- it is Gray on Gray (very slightly color variations between the grey shades, really all within a shade of each other) with no biege at all. I need something that's got a little color variation. This is very nice, lovely even, but since my couch is also Gray and the coffee table is silver.... the original rug had gradations and a charcoal strip in the middle.

I will follow up on the rug saga later today. I've got some thinking to do. And I need to see if another vendor can get the original rug in for me. If not I will ask Horchow to send me a sample size of the beige and charcoal one that everyone likes so I can compare it to fabric swatches I have to see if it will work. If it will work I'll just order that one. It's got a lot of contrast.

Thanks guys for your opinions. You've been a great help. I am hoping the charcoal and beige one will work if I can't get the original rug. ((HUGS))

I am thinking that if I returned the end table I just bought from target I could also make the gray and Ivory work. I might ask them to send me a sample size of that too. Then I can take a pic of both with my swatch and see what you think.

OK, you may have already decided but... I absolutely *adore* the one you ordered. Like, if the poo-monster cat didn't do his icky butt scoot on everything I would soooooo covet it. It's beautiful. The one you got is... nice, attractive... but the one you ordered makes my toes curl. I'd curse every step of the return process, but I'd do it.

Original Rug is officially not an option. It has been discontinued and there are NO 8x11's of it to be found.

Wrong rug will be shipped back.

I have requested for samples of these two from Horchow and I will pick one of them (god willing).

If I get the Pemberton (Gray and Cream) I will return the little end table I bought from target, as it will not go.

Sorry to hear that, Gypsy. Sucks when you've spent hours looking for something, only for it to have just been discontinued. We jsut bought a house and I'm furnishing each room from scratch. This has happened to be more times than I can count and it's so frustrating. Plus, our selection here in Canada is maybe 1/10th that you guys have in the US, so it's doubly difficult.

Do you need new bedding? The only reason I ask is because I saw a similar pattern bedding recently. So if you can't have the rug, maybe the bedding will be second best? I have to go dig up where I saw it, be back with the info.

Edit: Honestly, now I'm pissed. It's not on the website anymore and I can't remember the brand. This was the other one I also saw, but it's doesn't have the gradient the one I meant to show you had (similar to the original rug). http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=126668&RN=27&

I think between those two the grey and cream will hold up better and not look dirty as easily.
