Cheers RS for your post and encouragement.risingsun said:I would much rather have a fabulous one of a kind piece than add to a collection of stones. I say go for it! I don't think that you will regret it. You will have accomplished something beautiful that you will enjoy for a lifetime![]()

kama_s said:Tough situation! AJ, do you have any projects you know you definitely want to do/have in the near future? If you have your heart on something else then you might need to figure out which takes a priority. But if your next 12-15 months have nothing in particular in store, then definitely go ahead and set that beauty in your custom setting.
gemgirl said:Here I come, odd man out.
I would put it off until I could comfortably afford to do it. That's kinda' why I haven't had my loose round set yet. I really wanted to go custom, but then considered that it would put me into debt for a while AND I have three other projects that I've been dying to dive into.
So I waited.... and I think I may actually have found a setting that will make me happy for the long term and it's going to cost less than half of custom. I'm only speaking for myself and my pocketbook, but I can't do everything custom, and so I kept looking and looking for something I'd like that was very close to what I would have made custom. I'm saving my "custom bucks" for when I reset my actual wedding set.
But like I said, that's just me, my opinion for my situation and budget.
packrat said:I would set it and then spend the rest of the time bookmarking and saving pictures and drawing in my notebook of project ideas. I do think it seems like a long time, but it will go by faster than you think!
Burberrygirl said:I made the decision to go ahead and start a big project in January which meant no more new gems for quite some time. The project should be done in early October in time for my birthday. It's been hard not buying new gems and wanting to have other things set but I know it'll be worth it in the end. I say go for it! I promise, it won't be that bad to go without for a while.![]()
BTW, your OEC is gorgeous! I can't wait to see what you do with it!

Have you made a decision yet? I can't wait to see what you are going to do with that beautiful stone of yours!
(Ps yes I did get the iPhone4 . hehehehehehe. My signature line should be I shop therefore I am)
April20 said:I think you should do it. Your stone is amazing and deserves an amazing setting and from what I saw in the thread you linked to, if it's anything like that one, that's what you'd end up with. I think you'll be more satisified with this in the long run. If you went less expensive and compromised on a setting, what are the chances you'll just end up resetting it into this setting down the road and will end up spending more money than you would just doing it the first time around?
CharmyPoo said:Just do it.
baby nurse said:The very thought of going a year without buying any colored stones sounds sooo bleak to me. However, if you look back to a year ago, haven't the last 12 months gone by fast? It IS only a year and a setting made by the people who made klewis' ring would, without a doubt, be worth it. His ring is a work of art! And you know, there will always be another colored stone. I would do it.
Kaleigh said:I'd do it. Better to have one great piece....
Maisie said:Will you wear this new ring as an ering? Or a RHR?

AJ, are the two you want coloured stones? Usually I'd be with Dreamer and say a bird in the hand, etc. However, the "perfect" coloured stone is hard to come by, so... just another thought to add to the confusion![]()
zhuzhu said:I think you should do it if you have already decided on a design that you love.
The gold price is only going up and not likely down in a year, so will platinum.
How about a solution to the other 2 projects? Are you able to work extra hours to make extra $?
Cehrabehra said:If I told you you should wait until next year and spread your "one year budget" over 2 years so you can get a half year of extra bling over those 2 years would that make you happier than telling you you should just go for it now and let the rest wait?
panda08 said:Hi AJ,
When I saw this post, I realized that I neglected to respond to your last post in your other thread about your OEC (sorry!) so I thought I'd drop in to give my two cents.
You've gotten a lot of good opinions already. If I were you, I guess my answer would depend on how often I'd wear the OEC ring and whether the gems are something unique and easy to source. If it's gonna be an ering, I'd go for the dream custom setting because it is something I'd wear every day. If it's gonna be a RHR, maybe I'd wait, especially if the gems are unique and available now. But if the gems are something on my wish list, well, I guess I'd flip a coin![]()
BTW, did you get another opinion on your OEC? I thought was J instead of K. But either way, it's still![]()
