Our best vacation so far has been our 4.5 week trip to Switzerland (had friends there who lent us their car

), France, Germany (saw the house where hubby lived growing up) and Denmark. We had hoped we could pack more into our itinerary, but because we saw and stayed in some fascinating places, we lingered too long.

The trip was a celebration of our 25th anniversary.

That sounds like a dream trip, Isaku!

I loved Switzerland (well, only one town, Zermatt

), and have always wanted to go back with my husband.

8 week tour of Europe after graduating from college with BF who then became my husband. England, France, Italy (Florence , Rome and Venice) and the greek Islands...

I think since we are empty nesters we need to do this again!!!

Mine would be toss up between Zimbabwe and the Red Sea...

Spent a month at a lion conservation project in Zimbabwe, playing with baby lion cubs all day, feeding orphan elephants fruit, bottle feeding a baby impala...but mainly the cubs were just so amazing - like giant kittens

Spent a week on a dive boat in the red sea....saw some great stuff there, amazing wrecks and reefs. Got to sit on a toilet 30metres under...and followed a turtle for an hour who was just cruising about eating coral!

Oh and Italy, sigh, who doesnt love it?
30.gif
studied there for a couple of months and cant wait to go back with SO in tow...

Im really keen to do Nepal in the next few years...

WOW that sounds amazing!!! I''m so jealous!

My favorite trip wasn''t really a vacation, but a semester abroad living in Seville, Spain. Lived with a Spanish family, they spoke ZERO english, and roamed the city like a local for 4 months! I''m trying to talk FI into a honeymoon in Spain. I''m dying to get back!

We never take vacations, but in 2007 my sister and me went to Nashville for 4 days during CMA music fest and I have to tell you what that was the best time I have ever had in my life...we had so much fun, we were care free, husband fee and kids free...it was amazing

HI:

Oh gosh hard to say: month in Greece for honeymoon, month overland trek from Bangkok to Bali after University grad, Spain and Italy were awfully nice......and who could forget all those good times in London?

cheers--Sharon

Good question! I have a few -- I couldn''t choose just one.

1. The first mini vacation my husband and I went on. It was a couple months after we met and began dating. We wanted to do something special for NYE, so we drove up to Quebec City for 2 nights. We ate dinner the first night at our hotel -- it was a revolving restaurant at the top of the hotel. It began snowing during dinner, and between that and the twinkling lights outside, the view was amazing. Overall, it was just a very romantic vacation.

2. The first family vacation we took with my husband and my sister''s husband last February. My parents rented a condo in Key West for a week, and the six of us stayed there. It was such a fun time, and it was fun to be away with my family. It was the first real grown up vacation we''ve taken, now that my sister and I are both married. Key West is a great place to visit, especially in the middle of winter.

3. One summer when my sister and I were younger, we went with my parents to a teeny tiny island off the coast of Nantucket. We actually went with one of my aunts and her 3 kids. We had a blast! Our parents rented a house, and we just hung out at the beach most days. There aren''t any cars on the island, so we did a lot of exploring on foot. Our families still talk about this vacation, although it was years ago.

My honeymoon in Italy. I had been to Italy before, and it was wonderful, but there is just something I love about traveling with my husband. It was so special to be in this wonderful place and to be just married. No email, no other friends or family, no Blackberry--just us in a beautiful place, having a great time together. It was perfect!

My husband and I fell completely head over heels with Rome... so cannot wait to go back
30.gif

Here are some of my favorite places:

Italy -- been there 5 times & planning a 6th trip in April
St. Petersburg, Russia -- wonderful people, awesome city atmosphere, fabulous food
Dubrovnik, Croatia -- relax, relax, & relax in beautiful natural surroundings
Budapest -- again, wonderful people, fascinating culture
Amazon river cruise & jungle adventure -- if you''re into nature & aren''t afraid of being in the middle of nowhere with things that can kill you. This was my most memorable vacation. My blood now runs through a gazillion mosquitoes. LOL
Yosemite -- too beautiful for words

Egypt was AMAZING, but it was more of an expedition than a vacation. I needed a vacation AFTER I got back.

Venice, Rome, Athens, Croatia. All amazing! I LOVE the Mediterranean. Oh, and the Caribbean. Okay, I''m not much help. I''ve loved everywhere I''ve been I think.

Bali is up there as well.

Has anyone been to Dubai? I saw a special on TV about it and it looks like it would be incredible.
Lived there for 18 years

My family might move there, and I''m really excited to go visit them if they do (not that visiting them right now is too shabby - I''m kind of in love with The Netherlands).

SO JEALOUS PRINCESS!!!!!! Where do they live? It is now my life goal to live in the Netherlands haha.

I was going to say to visit the Netherlands. Best trip I have had BY FAR- The people there are sooo nice and the train system makes it soo easy to get around...

Just went for 2 weeks end of August/September to Zurich, Luzern, Schauffhausen, Zermatt, Switzerland -- and Bellagio Italy... here''s my favorite spot... at Rothorn viewing the Matterhorn.

Mim threadjack- LWD- ready for this weekend!?!?! State vs. U of M?!?!

In the U.S., my favorite vacations were:
- a hiking trip to Utah and New Mexico. The national parks in Utah are spectacular and the food and culture in New Mexico are too.
- my first visit to New York and New England in the fall. Loved it all.

Outside the U.S.,
- Australia/New Zealand. Both countries were fabulous. We hiked, snorkeled, scuba dived, and saw some amazing scenery. The people were terrific and we''d love to go back. Sydney is one of my 5 favorite cities in the world.
- Italy. The food, the wine, the people watching. There''s no place like it.
- England/Scotland. The history, the gardens, the culture, the castles, the countryside, London, Bath, the pub food.
- Paris. Another of my 5 favorite cities. I love renting an apartment there, shopping for food, getting a cafe creme at a cafe, a fresh baked croissant, the Eiffel Tower when it sparkles, people watching.

They''re about 15-20 minutes outside of Den Haag by bus. Really pretty area. I went in April (just in time for the tulips) and I''m going back in December to visit. I don''t know if I could handle Dutch winters long-term, but I''m willing to give it a shot, lol! It''s on the list of countries BF and I are considering moving to (in part because I really like the MScB program at the University of Rotterdam).

Positano is pretty for sure. But I''m probably the only crazy one who thought Sorrento was really ick. I think I would have preferred the Cinque Terre over Amalfi.

I loved Cinque Terre. It rained for all but 5 minutes (literally!) of our four days there, but it was amazing. I have to say, though, I''d almost rather go back to Acadia in Maine (yeah, BeachRunner!) than any other place I''ve been. Oh, with the exception of Budapest, where I studied abroad and miss horribly...

Bahamas. Everything paid for. And Limos!

I think the best vacation I have been on was my trip to London. I loved seeing everything. I will definitely be going back

My favorite trip was a couple of weeks in Greece with my husband. We rented a car and just drove around doing our own thing, which is very much our travel style. We had a great time.

I also loved our honeymoon in San Francisco. We married young, and for both of us it was our first real trip with no parents! We felt like we were on a huge adventure!

Mine was a trip to the Bahamas. Out of the blue, my Dh (boyfriend back then) wanted to take me away somewhere. So, he took me to Nassau, Bahamas. It was the very first trip I have taken outside of Canada and the US. So memorable.

Equally to Nassau is Riveria Maya. We took our honeymoon the Riveria Maya. It was awesome! We have not been able to stay away since. The people, scenery, beaches etc are beautiful!

Tofino on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. We had an ocean front room with a hot tub. We relaxed, walked around the town and the beach, and the highlight was a 3+ hour kayak and tour around one of the little islands, walking through old growth natural forest.

It was great because we hung out a lot and the town was very laid back. The drive out there was VERY long, though. We're only 2 hours away from BC, but to get to Tofino, including the ferry ride, it took about 8 hours.

Do Buy. Eh, it''s suppose to be wonderful, but the place is a bit crazy. Do you know that it''s illegal to have debt there? They throw you in jail. The place scares me.

Oh my. I was talking to my husband about it and said that I wanted to go. I have been looking to see how much it would be to go. I am thinking 2 weeks. I don''t think 1 week would be enough.

How long has it been since you were there?

Here''s me waiting for our ferry to take off!

Light house at Tofino. Hopefully the picture here doesn''t turn out too small.

The beach was beautiful, but typical NW gray tones.

I've been on a lot of vacations, and I love them all for different reasons but I don't have a favorite. My dream vacation is to travel all over Europe for two months. It was supposed to happen this summer, but it's been pushed back to when I graduate from college. Unfortunately I lost two relatives recently and I wanted to be home with my family during such a difficult time. I know I'll get there eventually :)

10 days in Brazil (Rio) visiting a friend. I had amazing food, went to Santa Theresa and bought lots of great items, went to the beach, bought lots of cute clothes, learned Afro-brazilian dance, and generally destressed from wedding prep and work. Best time ever.
